“I have 1% silver sulfadiazine cream (Silvadene) that I was prescribed when I was in the hospital for cellulitis. I asked if silver would help heal it, the doctor said it couldn’t hurt. I made sure my doctor keeps it in my list of medicine I use so I can get refills.”

My wife was an office RN in a busy family practice.

Our two sons from ages of 9 to their 20’s rode dirt bikes, regular bikes, hiked, played baseball, football and other fun stuff which often resulted in large areas of their outer skin being shredded, known as road rash or baseball sliding rashes.

We started using Silvadene after a serious road rash case with our older son and Adaptic bandages which didn’t remove the clots when they were removed.

The results were so impressive, we bought the largest jar of Silvadene and kept it at home with small jars for my wife’s purse which also served as a EMT bag. Adaptic bandages have also been another well stocked item.

We learned about using Honey applied to the wounds if we felt the Silvadene might get overwhelmed. She would use Silvadene and put the honey on a few hours later.

After their injuries happened, either at home or at the site, my wife would bring out a bottle of hydrogen peroxide to pour or squirt on their wounds to wash out the contaminants. Then, the Silvadene would go on and maybe an Adaptive patch. Now she opens a bottle of Green Tea to wash down a new wound.

Then, Silvadene would be used at regular time periods, before bedtime, in the morning and after school. After the afternoon Silvadene and maybe honey treatment, we tried to leave their wounds uncovered until bedtime to allow the O2 to work.

Both sons survived and are very healthy adults. When they left home for school, they got an emergency wound care kit of Silvadene, Adaptive bandages and Neosporin. They could buy their own honey if needed.

Active grand kids receive the same treatment, and zero infections and one hasn’t missed a day of school in spite of a couple of self inflicted accidents where she looked like a poster child for road rash.

About ten years ago for smaller skin wounds we started using New Skin liquid bandage with an antiseptic in a super glue base. We buy it at Walmart for a couple bucks per bottle.

Sometimes when we fly fish, we can get small skin cracks in the skin around our around our hands and fingers. Since we are always down stream, only God knows what bad stuff is in the water.

About 10 years ago, I got a minor infection on my index finger and remembered what that a doctor friend had recommended the New Skin. I stopped fishing and drove to a pharmacy bought some New Skin an some rubber gloves for casting. I put it on an didn’t fish the rest of that day. In a couple of days, I could go back to fishing without rubber gloves, which I used the next day after treating my skin cracks.

We now have the small bottles of New Skin in our vehicles, er kits, at home, back packs. About a month ago, I was walking barefoot on an ocean beach and sliced a big toe. My wife had me sit down away from the water. She opened a bottle of Green Tea to rinse away the dirt and crud. She let it dry off used one of our New Skin backpack bottles to cover the cut. I stopped bleeding and the New Skin’s super glue did its thing. She went back to my truck and got new socks and my sandals brought them back to where I was setting and applied one more application of New Skin.

A couple of minutes later, we put on the clean sock and sandals and went back to the truck.

It was a pretty good size cut, but the New Skin held it together for the rest of the trip and for a week after we got home. One of her doctors looked at my toe after we got home and said to continue the New Skin for a few more days.
He now has a couple of bottles of New Skin in his er kit for his family and some Green Tea for washing away crud from a new wound.

Serious wounds and bites should be treated by doctor. Avoid hospitals if you can to avoid the bad bugs living in hospitals. Quick ER visits should be okay. Preferably go to your FP or PED’s office for most wounds/bites.

Keep your tetanus shots up to date. If you are bit by a dog or cat, get the owners name and address and to see if the critter has been vaccinated. Dog/cat bites can carry a lot of dangerous pathogens and should be treated by a doctor.

Tell that to the author of the linked article. That's where that line is from.

I have no problem with silver....as an antibiotic or otherwise ;)

Nor do I have a problem with silver - colloidal silver - I know it does not cause argryia. If silver does, it is when itg is in its ionic form.
