Meet the Boy Scout with all 134 merit badges
WIS TV ^ | Jun 18, 2013 | Taylor Kearns

WINNSBORO, SC (WIS) - Logan Robinson is going to need a bigger sash. He's come a long way in 10 years. Back then he was just a 7-year-old Cub Scout who enjoyed carving polar bears out of bars of soap.

"For a 7-year old to have a knife and be carving something, it was awesome," said Robinson. "I was hooked right away."

Robinson achieved his Eagle Scout rank by the age of 13. Most scouts quit when they hit Eagle. Robinson was just getting started.

"If I didn't have something to focus on, I was just going to fizzle out," said Robinson.

So Troop 49 scoutmaster Jimmie Joyner gave Robinson a challenge: earn every single badge available -- all 134.

"I've heard there have only been about 180-200 boys who've earned every badge out of the millions of scouts," said Joyner.

Robinson had many weekends spent at scouting camps earning a few badges at a time, but he got there. Everything from dentistry to tracking and bugling, which was a pain.

"You have to learn I believe it's 13 different bugle calls, and I had absolutely no musical experience," said Robinson.

Those experiences that made the 2 1/2-year journey worth it.

"I mean I've gotten to see F-35's being built in person," said Robinson, "who gets to do that?"

He hopes many more will. Part of the fun is showing off the sash to younger scouts and hopefully inspire them.

Just don't ask for too much detail about the nuclear science patch.

"I remember doing it," said Robinson. "Every little aspect of it? Ehh."

Faint praise.

Really? Can you even define Environmental Science? And don’t you believe that the Scouts’ emphasis on outdoor activity calls for an understanding of the environment and conservation?

I realize that you like touchy-feeley crapola, but shoving politically correct falsehood down a kid’s throat has nothing to do with ‘conservation.’

What “politically correct” falsehoods do you have in mind? Predator-prey relationships? Population dynamics? Habitat as a function of abiotic conditions? Perhaps you think that adiabatic temperature change and its influence on the distribution of conifers or developing the practice of intercropping in order to maximize agricultural output is “touchy-feely crapola”, but you’d be wrong, and I’m not surprised.

The fine young men of the B S A are not tainted. They deserve our support.

I was involved with Boy Scouts for around 15 years. I held positions such as Cubmaster and Assistant Scout Master. I watched as both of my boys EARNED their Eagle rank. They both earned it when they were 17. I have seen a few boys earn it when they were 16, but I can not imagine anyone EARNING it BY THEMSELVES, by 13.

Yes, I can imagine that it is physically possible for a kid to be rushed through everything by 13 if the adult leaders don’t care and the kid has nothing else on his plate, but it is examples like this which lessen the rank of Eagle Scout.

Now that Boy Scouts of America has abandoned their reverence toward God and their effort to have Scouts “morally straight” I will not have anything more to do with Scouts. If I had a boy right now that wanted to be a Boy Scout, I wouldn’t let him, because I have learned through all the years that there are plenty of other avenues by which young men can be taught to be leaders and self reliant.

Nor do they deserve what’s about to happen to them...

LOL! You are limited by your limited experience. Perhaps you should meet some homeschoolers, they are not in your small box. LOL!
