HGTV: Use American Flag as Table Cloth
Fox News ^ | June 12, 2013 | Todd Starnes

Posted on 06/12/2013 10:27:30 AM PDT by opentalk

HGTV viewers are expressing outrage after the network suggested they use American flags as table cloths for Fourth of July celebrations, calling offensive, un-American and an insult to the American military. “Using an American flag as a table cloth dishonors all Americans who love Old Glory – especially those who gave their lives defending it,” one viewer wrote. “No one dies for a table cloth.”

The HGTV website featured a segment titled, “Classic Fourth of July Table Setting Ideas.”The photographs show bowls of fruit and a jar of lemonade sitting atop Old Glory. They called the flag an “unconventional table” linen.

“Drape a large American flag over the table as a bright and festive table runner,” HGTV suggested. “Use a nylon flag so spills can be easily wiped off and the flag can later be hung with pride on a flag pole.”

On Wednesday HGTV removed a link to the page and issued an apology

...Viewers took to social networking sites like Facebook to express their extreme displeasure with the holiday decorations.

OMW! These people are beyond disgusting. Used to love HGTV, but so much of the programming is just stupid and useless. And I got sick of seeing so many homo “couples” among the homeowners.

Same here, and I especially agree with your second sentence above. Enough already!

Yes! I forgot to mention how overwhelmingly gay-friendly HGTV has become. Barf...

HGTV actually apologized for using our flag as a tablecloth?

Flag Day is Friday June 14th.

(((
It is,indeed, and, as we are lucky enough to live in Maryland, we will travel to Ft. McHenry for the yearly Flag Day presentation. It starts with the Pledge, followed by a presentation of the colors and a concert. And it ends with fireworks.

I do not believe, however, that the person who came up with this idea was intentionally being disrespectful, I think they are just clueless regarding proper protocol to be observed when displaying the flag.

I suspect you are right.

They must be geniuses over at HGTV.

Why has no one -- ever before -- thought of using the American flag to mop up that fried chicken grease and soak up the watermelon juice.

Wowsers! Cheerleader IQs.

More like “holiday desecrations”.

I don’t think the sharpest minds tend to end up in the interior decorating and landscaping professions.

You are wrong. The flag should not be used for anything but a flag. This is one of the worst well-intentioned abuses of the flag that I have seen.

OF all the injustices thrown out there everyday, this is such a small one. It isn’t meant as disrespectful. Actually, it’s supposed to be a tribute. It just wasn’t well thought out.

Of course you are correct. It was meant as a tribute. Just wasn’t well thought out.

It seems to me this kind of thing all started with Abbie Hoffman turning our flag into a shirt, which resulted in outrage at the time, which was of course ignored. So now, people like Garth Brooks wear something inspired by it, probably without even knowing where it started, but feeling patriotic by doing it.

AgitpropTV.

They take content that should be apolitical and requiring of no moral position and contaminate and debase it with non-stop cultural propaganda.

The flag tablecloth may be more of the same attempt at tearing down traditional and respected norms, or it could be the abject ignorance of them. Considering HGTVs habit of normalizing perversion, I think it’s the former, even if the dummies who made the table display were clueless.

It’s an unconventional tablecloth all right, because it’s something that ought not be done. Geez why don’t they do like regular Americans and make patriotic table linens out of a couple yards of patriotic-themed fabric?

Maybe the idea here was to go “green” and “repurpose” a flag. After all, “green” is the new red. Commies simply bounced to the other side of the color wheel.
