An 18-year-old Minnesota high school cheerleader allegedly prostituted her younger, cognitively delayed teammate by creating an online ad and taking her to see potential customers, pocketing $60 in one case.
Montia Marie Parke faces felony charges of sex trafficking and promoting prostitution for the acts involving her 16-year-old classmate.
Parker was a senior at Hopkins High School when she allegedly set up a Backpage.com ad for the 16-year-old, driving her to an apartment to have oral sex with a man, and taking the $60 the girl made. Authorities allege Parker and the girl drove to another home the next day, but left after the man refused oral sex.

I remember when Hopkins wasn’t really a suburb and I had friends who lived at a place called the ‘Funny Farm’. That was before the serpentine main street when cruising up and down the streets was a big deal.
In layman's terms (and I consider myself a layman), cognitive delay might best be described as extreme immaturity.
This 16 year old girl may have been functioning as though she was half her age.
On a scale of mental impairment, this is not as severe as mental retardation, but it is approaching it.
Imagine a 16 year old girl cutting out paper dolls and playing with Play-Doh. Perfectly acceptable childhood behavior, but out of sync with her age.
This type of delay is also evident in academics. This 16 year old may be able to comprehend and do basic operations with fractions, but be baffled by grade level mathematics. By contrast, a mentally retarded child would probably be unable to do even that.
One thing as a teacher I've never understood... if there is a "delay" does the child ever catch up? Not that I've seen, but certainly they are capable of working and earning a living.
The word “retard” means “to make slow.” In Latin-based languages, specifically French, “retard” means slow.
As such, this is absolutely political correctness substitution of one word, that is deemed as “hurtful” for another word meaning the exact same thing.
By using the term ‘delayed’ one would assume that at some point in time an epiphany would occur and the subject would be back on schedule as a functioning and maturing adult.
Isn’t this just ‘newspeak’ to obfuscate the truth?
How much crime in this country is performed by Democrats or at least the prime targets of the party? Democrats are a drain.
Human trafficking is a federal crime. Fire up the wood chipper.

High schools have special education classes for ED (emotionally disturbed) and special ed (that covers everything from mild to severe mental retardation, autism, etc). Many high schools will allow a kid from the special education sector to join a team. It is an ego boosting act so that the child can feel like they participated in a “sport” or event. There is a high school in our area that has allowed a Down Syndrome boy to join the football team. He works out and suits up but doesn’t get any pt. However, he is still a team member.

I teach a delayed boy in middle school who is a good athlete. He plays on the football team.
What is heartbreaking about this story is that these children are often desperate for the attention and acceptance of their peers. I'm sure she was thrilled to be "befriended" by the older girl.
What makes this more than sad and just infuriating is that many special needs kids are so trusting. They want to be accepted by others. They want to be liked. They want to be included in the things the “other” kids get to enjoy. I have the feeling this girl had no idea she was being used (pimped out). She probably just felt she had a friend and was easily swayed not to tell her parents or anyone else. Another case of preying on the weak and innocent. As for your middle schooler... good for him! Not only is the physical exercise great for him but to belong to a group... of buddies.. has got to be very special for him.
