"Falling Skies"...have any of you been following it? (vanity)

Posted on 06/03/2013 6:04:22 PM PDT by RoosterRedux

I downloaded Season 1 and Season 2...very impressed. Lot's of stuff that shakes up our culture and lot's of stuff that get's back to our founding fathers.

I had only recently read "1776" and "John Adams" by David McCullough...and was surprised at to how the storyline of "Falling Skies" follows the real history of our Country...and our apocalyptic (and Biblical) visions of the future..

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Season 3 starts next week.

Its an OK show. At least its passable sci fi.

Watching “Defiance” right now on SyFy. Defiance is getting better as I follow it.

Personally, I’ve watched the show, but always feel a little frustrated afterward.

I find that re-watching Act of Valor afterward, to see how military operations SHOULD be run, helps a lot.

I’d like to see our Navy SEALs take on a crew of aliens; now THAT would be a movie/TV series.

I liked it enough that I will watch the 3rd season.

I found some of the characters to be a little irrational and prone to going off half cocked more than I think they should.

OTOH I don’t know how how an environment that extreme could distort a person’s judgement, so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. Interested in seeing how (if) some of the characters grow in their thinking and actions.

Thx CC for your comment. I get this strange sense that “Falling Skies” has a muslim element.

Falling Skies has gone from pillar to post and now they meet the French, but there's only one Frenchman and his 'fleet' is in orbit somewhere else.

That's the way I guess the next few stages of development ~ oh, and in the meantime there are plenty of British tories around getting in people's ears and so forth ~

Remember, Spain was an ally also. The writers know.

The bottomless AR15 magazines are laughable. And so is the way they squander ammo. They’d need a U Hall to carry around the stuff at the rate they use it.

“Grimm” and “Elementary” have ended for this season, now waiting for “Falling Skies” and “Rizzoli and Isles” to begin.

Might have to get interested in “Game of Thrones” since everyeone else is raving over it.

It started off a little weak, but that’s not uncommon. It got very interesting later on and I like it now. I’m looking forward to seeing it on Sunday.

The show started slow and has gotten better overall.

The politics of the show have gotten less conservative but overall the stories are better.

I look forward to season 3 with the introduction of a new third species.

Game of Thrones: If you like good guys that are all good and only have minor setbacks before prevailing this is not a show for you. Otherwise one of the best shows on TV ever.

Defiance is very good. Falling Skies was great in season 1, but season 2 started to drift away fast from the stuff you saw in 1---the prayer scene, the notion that the aliens are bad (season 2 introduces the "good" aliens that are opposed to taking over the earth.) I quit watching it.

BTW, "The Killing" is as good this season as last, at least so far.

I think the thing that bothers me is that the aliens can cross light years of space but can’t find the people.

At least with Defiance, a war, runaway terraforming and arkfall have put them all on a somewhat equal footing.

I was surprised at how what seemed to be a stock military bad guy, Weaver (Will Patton) was humanized and shown to provide leadership that was essential to survival, while a former professor turned “acting President” (Manchester, played by Terry O’Quinn) was revealed to have dictatorial tendencies. The central character of Tom Mason (Noah Wyle) can be all so annoyingly wise and reasonable, which diminishes narrative tension and makes the plot lines fairly predictable.

Yup. And where did they get all their guns, since those would have been long confiscated by their ‘benevolent’ state guvmint?

Like it but haven't been able to watch since economic circumstances obliged me to switch to the most basic of basic cable.

Are back episodes anywhere online?

I had to skip a lot of the first season, but was able to watch the second season without too much difficulty, and I’m looking forward to the third season.

Never even heard of it. Just finished Season 1 of “The Americans” and I was very impressed. Just started “Breaking Bad” Season 1 (yeah, a little late to the game, I know). Finished Seasons 1 - 4 of “Justified” before “The Americans” and “Carnivale” before that.
