The problem is the crappy seed companies stick all kinds of seeds that won't grow/are the wrong stuff/just suck.... in their seed packets.

I once got a packet of seeds for Swiss Chard (green, not the red stuff) and those seeds are VERY obvious for what they are. If you ever see one, you would never miss the ID. And in the packet were two little round seeds that DIDN'T look like they came from the planet Klingon. I assumed they were okra and dumped them at the gutter, because I didn't want them in my chard.

Buy certified seed.

Or better yet, save seed.

Thanks but nope. That’s not the leaf either.

Now I’m curious what a sungold smells like.

Check out your local nursery and see if they still have plants on sale. Burpee and Kitazawa sell the seeds. The plant grows and produces fast.

That was the idea. I was going to grow a mixture and decide what we liked and didn't like and then save the seeds of what we liked. Looks like Mother Nature is still having fun at my expense. I have some bibb, tipburn, etc. so that can go in. I just read that hemlock smells like skunk but the pics aren't even close to matching. I already knew but this is more proof that we must pay attention to nature. If something smells like skunk, it's wise to stay away from it.

Cleome probably, it is in the Brassica or mustard family, you know cabbage, brussels sprouts etc. and is known to have a skunky smell when the leaves are crushed or pinched.

The native Americans and Cajuns lived on gators for years.

One of the strangest things I saw when I first moved to south Florida was the “Gator Stand” at the county fair (I live about 20 minutes from the Everglades). I will say that I really love alligator meat. It makes a better ‘nugget’ than chicken. I really like it in a steak form too.

Of course I am from Georgia and never minded venison either. Or rabbit.

I learned the hard way to NOT cook turtle too fast. It smells like someone died.

That’s one that requires hours of low boil.

I love to cook, too. There is one dish in the British book mentioned that I’ve made and it’s delicious: Summer Pudding. I have 100 English cookbooks - they make fascinating reading and you can make delicious food. It’s simply a cliché to say the Brits no nothing about food.

Bear - No, what is that?

All - thanks for trying to help. I have a poison ivy type rash on my face, my eyes are puffy and ears hurt so I’m now putting whatever that is in the poisonous category. I’m still tasting skunk even though I just nibbled a bit of it yesterday so have been brushing with baking soda and peroxide. Hubby dug up the entire area and disposed of the dirt. It was just that group of plants that smelled skunky so it wasn’t skunk spray. Hubby was itchy and ran to the shower. I put our clothes in the wash and will run them through a couple times to make sure. The rest of the seed packets are in the garbage. Never again. Ferry-Morse will forever be on my ban list.

Skunk cabbage, at least that is the kind we have growing in the yard. Nasty smelling stuff, also toxic if eaten.

If you are having symptoms of poisoning you might want to think about going to an urgent care facility.

Ok here is another one.

This is the Dieffenbachia. If you ate this forget about urgent care and hie thyself to the emergency room on the double.

Actually, I’d save those seeds as evidence if I were you. If FM is putting seeds in their packets that cause that kind of a reaction, then let them know you have more than enough grounds for a lawsuit.

(Whether you actually follow through is up to you, but just the threat might be enough to get them to shape up.)
