The commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell, has played down speculation linking the Miami Dolphins with a possible move to Los Angeles.

Florida politicians last week rejected the Dolphins' appeal for taxpayers to partially meet the $350m (£227m) cost of redeveloping their Sun Life stadium.

“Give us a free stadium or we’re moving to L.A.!” Is starting to ring awfully hollow.

From the article:

He added that the proposal the Dolphins and local officials had worked on was "very intelligent and very thoughtful."

Very intelligent in that it smartly took money from the people rather than the politicians or team owners.

Very thoughtful in that it tried it's best to put the best shade of lipstick on the pig.

Los Angeles has a stadium approved contingent on an NFL team committing to a move. Whether they’ll actually build it if a team relocates is a different question.

You can trust Goodell. He’s a lawyer making a difference. Instead of chasing ambulances, he’s slowing them down so the other lawyers can catch up and sue his league.

The taxpayers just built a new stadium for the Miami Marlins, only to have the Marlins sell off most of their quality players immediately afterwards, assuring the city will have a last place team for the foreseeable future. I don’t think they’ll be too anxious to foot the bill for yet another new stadium anytime soon.

Wow, even Jerry Jones had enough class to hire a real coach and pump up the Cowboys’ record for a few years during the run up to the new palace of Jerry and subsequent return to your regularly scheduled mediocrity in silver and blue.

The ‘fins management must really think poorly of the taxpayers in Florida.

NFL wouldn’t be the same without the Miami Dolphins, as much as I despise them as a Bills fan. Eventually the owners’ disrespect of tradition and fan loyalty will catch up with them.

Not having a team in LA is probably the most profitable thing to happen to the NFL. Just mention the LA Bengals, LA Vikings, LA Dolphins, etc. and politicians rip the wallets from the taxpayers' pockets to build a new stadium. Once LA actually has a team, the other NFL teams will have to threaten to move to Portland, Oregon (the next largest metro area without a team nearby) which doesn't seem quite as frightening.

Why does LA need another football team? We already have the Occidental College Tigers.

How bad is it for the Jaguars? Even the NFL doesn’t want them to move to LA

Those fools lost millions when they did not sign Tim Tebow. Could have removed the seat tarps with that signing

San Diego did that last year Chula Vista, ok, no. Oceanside, looks good, uh no. On second thought, Chula Vista....................

The chargers should just go to LA and get it over with.

Any team that moves to LA will need a new name. Let’s see....The Los Angeles Illegals....The Los Angeles Banditos...The California Tax and Spenders....The North Mexico Conquistadors....

Miami used to have a team in the AAFC called the Miami Seahawks, they became the Baltimore Colts.
