Caked in dust and full of turn-of-the century treasures, this Paris apartment is like going back in time.
Having lain untouched for seven decades the abandoned home was discovered three years ago after its owner died aged 91.
The woman who owned the flat, a Mrs De Florian, had fled for the south of France before the outbreak of the Second World War.
She never returned and in the 70 years since, it looks like no-one had set foot inside.

The current, "ideal" apartment, as depicted in most movies, is the ultra-minimalist, geometric, concrete and steel, public bathroom look.
Very austere and inhuman. I wonder what it's all about. Are machines superior to people? Are they going to take over? Are we supposed to be machines?
We’ll need four extra-duty shop-vacs for the dust. Two set to blast, two set to filter. Put two at each end, turn them on and run out for some anjou and beignet.
Reposition the shopvacs about 10 times and with the windows open, we could get the bulk of the dust in a day.
I have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Most movies I see that have the beautiful people living in apartments feature apartments that look like apartments.
Plus didn't the building superintendant have to check on the wiring and plumbing once in a while?
If I owned the building I'd be a tad curious about just why nobody ever comes and goes into this apartment.
A simple knock to see if the tenant was OK would seem in order.
Not to mention the decades worth of Pizza Hut menus hanging on the doorknob.

I'm thinking of movies I've seen where the main character is wealthy and hip --meaning that this is the type of thing that hip and wealthy people are aspiring to.

That was the apartment of a very comfortable, even wealthy woman. She had a cheque cut monthly by whomever managed her finances, then had it electronically drafted out of a household account. The money for the expense was not a concern. She likely didn’t even notice it, and if she did the thought of breaking up that household was more than she wanted to deal with.
Maybe it was special somehow, like a bedroom in a house left untouched for years. She liked knowing it was there but didn’t want to go see it. The upstairs of my paternal grandmother’s house was sort of like that, a time capsule. Not quite as grand, though.
I can’t stand that modern, industrial look. How does anyone ever feel at home in such an environment?

I may be mistaken, but I believe in the upper righthand corner of the first picture, the wallpaper is beginning to peel off of the wall at the ceiling.
Despite that, the apartment really is in remarkable condition.
Odd that she never sent for her art.
Wow, just think of how much money she could have made renting out the apartment for 70 years.

It is indeed a portrait of a beautiful woman.
Sad in way... Things that seem so important to us in our lifetime outlive us. We go away and turn to dust; our things remain and get covered in dust.
Kind of sets everything in perspective.
