Wigan's shock FA Cup win keeps football romance alive
CNN ^ | 5/11/2013 | Gary Morley, CNN

In a sporting world where the big boys invariably grab all the glory, there is one competition where the romantic notion of the underdog toppling the giant sometimes becomes reality. Not often, but regularly enough to keep seemingly hopeless dreams alive. The English FA Cup is soccer's oldest knockout competition, and while it is often won by the greatest teams in the Premier League it is also the source of some of the greatest upset results.

I think Bruce was a Geordie plant at Sunderland, he was sent there to commit sabotage. Im loving Paulo! This guy has only been here 5 minutes, and already he has achieved Godhood status among the Makems.

Yup, but Arsenal is a must win. That’s a tall order.

Congrats to Wigan on the win today, though. What a dramatic finish!

I’m really curious to see how Moyes and Rooney are going to manage, assuming Rooney stays.

I had to work today so I can spend Mother’s Day with the wife. BUT, I stayed home to watch this first.

GREAT game. Wigins was deserving. I always pull for underdogs and have my heart broken regularly(NFL Cardinals ! ! ! ). This time was different. The Wigan fans were just great. That the substitute makes the winning goal in stoppage time was just absolutely appropriate.

Loved it. The fact that goals are rare makes one on edge the entire 90 minutes in a big match.

BTW, I have no respect for City’s way of simply buying a team, but their players showed surprising class after the whistle blew. Chapeau to them.

Yeah, I figured when Moyes was announced that he and Rooney would never work together.

Now maybe Chicharito will get some more playing time.

Well certainly won’t be the kind of fall from grace that Pompey experienced after their FA Cup win.

I think more than half of the residents of Wigan were at Wembley, they barely draw at their home games, it’s more of a Rugby town....and it’s like basically a small suburb of Manchester. It reminded me of a high school football playoff game in Texas where the whole town goes to the game in Dallas or wherever the game is played.

Were he and Beckham together at United at any point? I hear Beckham will be back with them next year as well.

I’ve been a big Hernandez supporter for several years, he’s really smart and clever, but he’s an awful lot like Van Persie. If Rooney goes, they’ll need some muscle. I think Kagawa’ll get more starts, or some new guy, with Chicharito staying in the Solskjaer role, with Euro starts.

Wigan was always more famous for it Rugby League club, and the soccer club was very weak.

Beckham and I Ibravotich, yes I can’t spell the name have already stated in public they would love to play with Rooney at the club, and lets not forget Rooney played under Moyes and Moyes sold him off.

If we get decent money and try to get Lebonoski[sp] can’t spell that name either LOL then I’ll be happy.

I;d clear Young, Welbeck, only one goal this season , which is awful , dreadful for a forward even if he has played on the wing a few times, Anderson can go to.

Reduce the wage bill which Rooney going would and bring in just a couple of top players for next year.

Course tight ass glazers pull the money strings now sadly

And look who scores for United.

Bad day for Wigan, though....They need all six points now to avoid the drop.

Glad to see Goodison give Moyes a good send-off.

The game between Arsenal-Wigan is huge!!!! Arsenal in fifth, two points out of CL qualifying, because of Tottenham’s win. And Wigan needs to win to stay up.

Well that was certainly one of Fergie’s strengths that will be hard to replace, finding diamonds in the rough, that didn’t cost a mint.....Cantona was a perfect example.

he had that never say die attitude, he knew he could get the best out of players and though some players have attitudes like we see in the NFL, NBA, OK not that bad Fergie still could deal with them and let them know Manchester united is bigger than any one player and one person.

Now us at united are behind Moyes and I’m sure Fergie will be helping him along behind the scenes much to the sadness to some other clubs.
