Former Jets WR George Sauer dies at 69; starred in Super Bowl III

George Sauer had a huge day in the biggest game in New York Jets history, and then surprisingly walked away from football a few years later.

Sauer, a wide receiver on the Jets' only Super Bowl championship team, has died. He was 69.

Saw a picture of Joe the other day and he looked rather old. Since I can remember his glory days, I guess I look old too.

I remember a few years back Joe, who is from Pennsylvania, said the Alabama girls were the prettiest of any.

In his book, Bear Bryant said Namath was the best athlete he ever coached. The best player he ever coached according to Bryant was John David Crow at Texas A&M.
