High School Was Wrong to Pull Teen Mother’s Yearbook Picture
Life News ^ | Kelsey Hazzard

A North Carolina high school pulled a teen’s senior portrait because she had the portrait taken with her baby boy.

As ABC reports:

A high school student is fighting back after her senior photo was pulled from the school yearbook.

The photo shows North Carolina senior Caitlin Tiller holding her now one-year old son.

The school asked students to have their picture taken with something that best represents them or an achievement.

Tiller chose her son because he represented her drive to stay in school. The school didn’t see it that way. Caitlin says she was told the picture promoted teen pregnancy. She sees it as a symbol of responsibility and love.

“They should be proud that the students are willing to stay in school and graduate and make something of their self and not try and hide it,” Tiller said.

School officials would only say the yearbook should be all about the student and not an extension of the student’s family.

As we’ve said before, preventing abortion means preventing unplanned pregnancies and supporting mothers. This includes teen mothers. Of course pregnancy and parenthood represent serious challenges for a teenager, and reducing teen pregnancy rates (read: unplanned pregnancy rates) is important. But once a teenager is already pregnant–or already a parent–she should be supported, as all parents should be supported.

Society’s message to our youth should be: “Here are the serious responsibilities involved in pregnancy and parenthood. Here are the ways you can avoid pregnancy [abstinence, various birth control methods]. But if you do get pregnant, you will still be okay. You are not alone.”

Tiller’s attitude about being a teen mom is admirable, and we salute her.

“When will the lawsuit be filed?”

Well look, if the homos, trans-whatevers, and all other freaks are filing suits then why not her? Look in one way if she looses then planned barronhood wins and they will try to force more teens to have abortions in their in-school clinics. Let’s face it that is why they don’t want this picture. They wanted her to abort. I don’t like it that she is an unmarried single mum, but I am so happy she did not have an abortion. Her picture would show to other teen girls you can finish school with a baby and not abort!!!

I appreciate your point --- I really do --- and it is indeed a fine line we walk. On the one hand, you don't want to "valorize" uwed teenage childbearing. On the other hand, way, way too many high schools (not to mention colleges/universities) have, semester after semester, lots of pregnancies and never a childbirth.

Schools now have "LGBT Health and Inclusion Initiatives" to serve and affirm students with sex and gender-related disorders--- and do no make the least accommodation to students with children.

In any case --- not to get too far off the subject of the thread --- they gave the students guidelines for these pictures; she met the guidelines; they should greenlight the picture.

Or is healthy live birth the only sexuality-related experience that cannot be countenanced in public?

Are there really PP abortion clinics in high schools? If so where. Or is this just another made up slam against public schools?

Precisely, well said.

The fact that she thought having a baby was an achievement is so disturbing that I don’t know what to say.

many friends in the same social circle who are in the same boat with no ambitions to be productive members of society.

They just drift along, don't they. Get just enough money from the government to eat, pay the rent, and feed the baby.

The Welfare State seems to stunt people's development at the very bottom rung of Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs.

I have to agree. The school would rather her enter their on site abortion clinic and kill the child.

In my opinion, that's a leap to an incorrect conclusion. My immediate reaction was that it was nice to see a public school discouraging the currently-stylish celebration of unwed motherhood.

For Pete's sake, in the sixties, pregnant girls had to leave school altogether, but that was not a policy designed to encourage abortion. And, yes, I know it's not the sixties anymore.

Still. This is a decision to be applauded.

I don't see it that way at all. She is not celebrating that she had the child, but rather that she had the child and still continued her education.

A friend of my daughter turns 15 this week - her mother was 16 and single when the child was born but had to drop out of school. Mom had been raped. I truly wish she had been able to finish school. I truly can not stand the woman and consider her a leech on society, but she, some where along the line, did something right because that (soon to be) 15 year old daughter has become something her mother will never be - a respectable and productive member of society.

Well, any female whose natural instincts are intact --- whether it be wolf, whale, cat, elephant or human --- feels satisfaction at giving birth and caring for her young. This is a part of the "Good" that God Himself said, when He looked at mere fruitful nature and called it Good. In this perverse age, just rising to the level of a healthy normal mammal is an achievement.

You'll notice that when humans fall into serious sin and vice, we don't fall to the level of the animal; we fall to the level of the demonic. That this girl gave birth and didn't leave her offspring perishing at Herod's House of Choice, is laudable. I will praise her for that.

Yes, of course, in private, or in church, etc. But getting pregnant is not an academic achievement, and it is a distortion of the idea of what school is about to fall into googly-eyed Hallmark-ism ”ooh, an adorable baby” to have her display the proof that she chose instant gratification over correct behavior, was dumped by an irresponsible heel, and this was the.consequence. That might arouse pity, but it does not merit praise.

I see something you, in your sentimentalism don’t see. There is something pathological about this type of single mother, a narcissistic distortion in their personalities that causes them to seek out these situations where they can act the role of the victim.
She is already using her poor child - using him as a prop in a drama that’s all about her - which is why she didn’t get an abortion or give the baby.up for adoption - then she wouldn’t be able to.continue her drama.
I can tell you if that had happened to me in high school, in a million years I would not have displayed my child as my accomplishment. The idea is sickening.

My sentimentalism? What in the world are you taking about?

I see something pathological in your attitude. The girl made a mistake, but is now (and obviously has been) working to correct her mistake.

Originally I had sided with the school in rejecting the photo, but after having read the criteria for the photos the seniors were to follow for pictures they wished to add, I’m now siding with the student.

She became a mother at an age no longer considered the norm, yet she also finished high school - that is an accomplishment. Unlike the person I referenced in my anecdotal account, this young lady is looking to make something of herself in order to take care of her child.

If finishing school is the accomplishment, no need to display the child. It makes it look as if having a baby in high school is a worthy goal. It is not.
It most definitely is not. She is using the child as an accessory, to make herself feel important. That is typical of that type of narcissist. The mother of the imposter in the WH comes to mind. Think about it.

Please list every school that has an in school abortuary. Or were you just saying this for shock value?

They have in school planned parenthood clinics that give ob/gyn expams and put girls on the pill. They also pass out condoms and other types of birth control . They also refer girls to their abortions site and on the day of the procedure the girl is taken off campus, with out her parents knowledge to the abortion clinic. Then is later brought back to school and put on the bus and sent home. Yes this happens in America.

Now this is the same school system that will not allow your child to take an aspirin.

http://www.lifenews.com/2013/03/25/california-school-spent-350k-to-remodel-planned-parenthood-clinic/

California School Spent $350K to Remodel Planned Parenthood Clinic
In 2008, the Los Angeles Unified School District began quiet negotiations with Planned Parenthood to establish one of their many East L. A. abortion clinics on the Roosevelt High School Campus.

This was to be a pilot project, a test to see what response this clinic aroused.

There are twelve (12) future sites for clinics in selected areas of Los Angeles Unified school District. All with the apparent blessing of the Mayor’s office as well as the school district personnel. It may be recalled that now termed-out Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa made a bid to take over administration of this sprawling school district.

One of the candidates in the March 5th L.A. Mayor’s race, Wendy Greuel, has admitted her suppport for Planned Parenthood on campus. She stated this following a candidate appearance just before the election day.

The full service Reproductive Health Center opened in early fall 2010, establishing itself in quarters adjacent to the central Quad area of the campus.

The Los Angeles United School District, in 2012, put out a contract bid estimated to cost $350,000.00 to “make alterations to 1-Health clinic” on the campus of Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles.

In June of last year we began filing freedom of information forms with the school district to obtain information regarding agreements, contracts, costs of remodeling quarters to house a clinic on campus. We were stalled for over 5 months with claims that the LAUSD did not have any such figures or contracts.

We did, finally, in about October, receive what appeared to be an outdated contract.

In that agreement signed by Planned Parenthood and LAUSD officials it was stated that Roosevelt High School, with 97% Latino, low-income, English as second language residents, would be required to provide clinic space, office equipment, storage, utilities and security for the clinic’s data gathering activities and exam rooms and personnel. Planned Parenthood would bring the medical equipment and pharmacy supplies, paid for by U.S. taxpayers. The Obama Administration has offered approximately $500 million to schools for health and safety improvements.

This is the same district which in 2008, successfully passed bond measure Q, according to an LAUSD online site, it’s 4th in 10 years, to bring $7 Billion more dollars into the district because it couldn’t afford to pay for repairs to aging buildings, construction of new buildings and upgrading of classrooms much less educational materials for its students.

This bond measure Q was sold to the voting public as necessary to “improve student health, safety and educational quality” while repairing deteriorating or aging classrooms, restrooms and other construction and modernization programs.

This was necessary, the measure’s supporters said, because there was to be an expected upturn in enrollment to begin in 2015. Those opposed to Bond Measure Q claimed that there would be a downturn in enrollment expected.

Since California law, The Minor’s Reproductive Rights Act, protects abortion providers from the requirement to notify parents of a minor child’s reproductive activities, and the school district is refusing to inform taxpayers of the clinic’s activities, it can only be presumed that Planned Parenthood is doing, on campus, what it does in its other facilities, i.e. distribute morning after pills and/or Plan B, make referrals for surgical abortions or perform them on-site, give pelvic exams to minors and provide medications to treat venereal disease cases.

There is already a so-called Wellness Center on campus which already hands out condoms every Friday afternoon, according to the L.A. Times article announcing the addition of Planned Parenthood to the campus.

Why is the school district partnering with an abortion clinic in population suppression activities? Who gave nurses and teachers the authority to determine that any community had too many babies? More importantly who gave them authority to determine that the way to keep the population of Latino babies down was to abort their lives?

Beginning in 2000 we were told by federal officials and educators that education was everything to a student. It was their means of improving their lives, their job possibilities, their mental health. We have all suffered through No Child Left Behind, Race To The Top, ObamaCare and Healthy Families programs. But it all comes down to aborting the future generations because some bureaucrats have decided that these children’s lives threaten the sustainability within the community.

And, last, but not least, where is the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles in all of this? Boyle Heights is close to 100% a Latino and Catholic neighborhood. There are 12 Catholic churches in the general area.

Beginning last February 25 and running for a full week, a handful of neighborhood citizens began an effort to awaken both neighborhood and church members of the true intent of Planned Parenthood’s presence on campus.

Literature in both Spanish and English was handed out to students leaving the campus, and to area homes as well as church attendees, informing them of Planned Parenthood’s agenda and of the unhealthy results of the promiscuous lifestyle promoted by Planned Parenthood. Their intent to change the social and moral climate of the community to accept the brutal destruction of their own children.

A website has been created entitled www.breaktheconnection.com and a coalition formed which calls itself The Coalition to Protect Students Health and Safety at Roosevelt High School.

The goal is to remove Planned Parenthood from the campus of Roosevelt High and to put a stop to any further clinic development on school campuses. If you can be of assistance to these brave people please get in touch with their website for information and directions.

Name names, which schools specifically.

I have caught to many of the home schooling advocates making these blanket statements with out backing them up. I am not saying you are wrong, I just want to see the names.
