Steely Dan had some good tunes, I just hated that New York accent that came through on too many songs.

Like fingernails on a blackboard.

Never could understand the Doors popularity! As a musician, I thought they sucked!

I'm not an musician, only a consumer of music, but I always thought the Doors were awful. Even after all these years, Light My Fire still makes my skin crawl.

“Steely Dan was basically Becker/Fagen and a bunch of studio musicians.”

A lot of studio albums used studio musicians. Leon Russell and Glenn Campbell come to mind, but there were many more.

That’s not a problem.

As long as you acknowledge that my position is the only correct one.

Considering A Night at the Opera was their fourth album, Bohemian Rhapsody was quite a risk and it was way longer than the three minutes radio stations wanted yet it became a hit.

Elton John said it was horrible when it was played for him and would never sell. I guess we know how much Bernie Taupin was responsible for Elton’s success and I can’t think of a person I see who disgusts me like Elton John and of course he was wrong and without Bernie, where has his music career gone? I want to slit my wrists when I go through my albums and see “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. His role in “Tommy” should have ruined his career forever.

If you have access to the album, listen to, “Death on Two Legs”. Anyone who is straight who has met a few homos notice pretty quick that they’re pretty angry at life. He wrote the song to his previous record distributor who ripped them off, the dedication is: dedicated to... It’s an insane angry rant that is perfect musically.

“Steely Dan is really just 2 guys, Becker and Fagen (and a lot of the time, Skunk Baxter). However, they used some of the top studio musicians around for their albums and tours. But they really weren’t a band with a static membership.”

Innovative. Doing “fusion” many years before it gained wider popularity.

I love the Moodie Blues and have seen them live but the 'poem' at the end of "Knights in White Satin" (I think) is awful.

"Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bedsitter people look back and lament Another day's useless energy spent

Impassioned lovers wrestle as one Lonely man cries for love and has none New mother picks up and suckles her son Senior citizens wish they were young

Cold hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colors from our sight Red is grey and yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion?."

Who the hell writes stuff like that? Must have been some serious drugs.

Their catalog of music is great even though they have a few duds and a few overwrought pretentious songs as well.

The following is early Beatles, when for a brief period they called themselves the Buggs (pre-Ringo): Teddy Boy's Stump!

The song is about the heroin addiction in general as well as the addiction of one of Bono’s friends at the time the song was written.

And it really does have a unique sound, I’ve not ever heard another song like it.

The Buggs rock, but the lyrics don’t seem to fit a song entitled “Teddy Boy Stomp.”

True. I have a couple of their albums. The best in my opinion was Some Girls (dating myself).

However, their early stuff wasn't that great (IMO).

Maybe a good analogy for me is the Who — I don't like their early stuff (60s) but their 70s music was superb. Maybe I just don't like the “60s” music that much.
