KVUE ^ | March 26, 2013 | KVUE

Many may not be aware of pancake anaphylaxis, which is a rare but serious problem in which patients have a severe and life-threatening allergic reaction after eating pancakes.

(Excerpt) Read more at kvue.com ...

TOPICS: Food; Health/Medicine
KEYWORDS: allergy; dustmites; pancake
Dr. says dust mites get into opened packages of pancake mix while in the home. Restaurant made pancakes not so much since they go through the mix more quickly than at home.

Really? If so, then everything you have sitting on your kitchen counter has dust mites in it, your hair has them, your lazyboy has them, your dog has then and your bed has them so you'd be dead before you read this. Is there anything thing out there that isn't hyped up to give the soccer moms another excuse to wrap their kids up in bubble wrap? Well, maybe. Here's this article by the same doctor where he says you can prevent allergies by introducing a wide variety of foods to kids as early as possible, around the 6 month age, duh, like the rest of the world does -

As opposed to dust mites getting in the brain of this doctor....

Mommies should try making real pancakes rather than using mixes. Of course, if you never open a package of white flour, it’ll get those mites as well.

Absolutely. May I be so bold as to say that we should NOT take every flu shot that comes out. we have to develop out immune systems and put up with a little runny nose once in a while.

We can develop worse allergies from some of these vaccines than if we just let nature take its course (not saying we should avoid ALL vaccines. Obviously some have been needed)

Howdy Miss M

The wife sticks all flour products into the fridge right from the store. It should slow any growth.

Most things that I have seen grow in flour and grain has been weevils. It’s a good idea to check the sell by date in the store and refrigerate what you can

I always feel really full after eating pancakes, especially the fat ones that are the size of a large plate at the nearby diner with sides of hash browns and sausage. Is this an indication that the pancakes are toxic? Should I report the diner’s owner to the EPA, USDA and ATFE?

As far as I’m concerned, flu shots are only for the elderly or those with compromised immune systems. The rest of us shouldn’t need them, save if there is a particularly bad strain that rears up.

Wow agreed

I took my first flu shot in 1999 and haven’t yet recovered. I got
Guillain- Barre syndrome and now demyelinating neuropathy which aint ever going away.

Recently one of my kids was told at his college that he was REQUIRED to take a flu shot. He told them no. And told them about my condition and how I got it and all of a sudden it was NO LONGER REQUIRED. They didn’t want to get sued.

Our local IHOP has a pancake breakfast once a year honoring veterans. All you can eat for $5.00, most of which is donated to a local Veterans group. So got to get rid of those pancakes.

I lived in da Bronx as a kid. Been here on Lawn-guy-land since I was 15. I left in 1964 when John VN Lindsey was screwing up the city.

Still have family I visit. But glad to make trips in rather than live there.

Where I got the idea that you lived upstate, I’ll never know. But even if you live on Long Island, you still have to watch local news - and Weiner’s...er...face. Unless you are waaaaaay out there, I guess.

Can you tell us anything new (or old!) about Weiner? I remember Guiliani saying on Hannity’s program that he always thought something was wrong with him.
