Tony Romo New Highest Paid NFL Player After Taxes

Over Easter weekend, franchise quarterback Tony Romo signed a 6-year $108 million contract extension to remain with the Dallas Cowboys. While the estimated $18 million per year makes Romo the fifth highest paid player based on salary, he is actually the new highest paid player after taxes in the NFL.

The Cowboys QB now claims the top spot previously held by Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints because of no state income tax in Texas. With Romo’s income tax burden being 39.6 percent – the top marginal federal income tax rate in the U.S. – and estimated tax liability of $7.12 million, he still stands to earn $752,000 more than Brees.

I once had two friends arguing whether or not it was Romo or Homo.

The argument was settled when I said he spends an awful lot of time on his back with other large men on him.

:)Damn, that wasn’t nice was it?

People in Dallas are PISSED about this contract.

You can expect the boobirds to be out in force any time Tony throws a pick next season.

He should have been fired 3 or 4 years ago. He’s had plenty of chances to perform.

Dallas needs to fire their GM...None of the 2009 draft picks are still in the league.

Tony Romo has the same number of NFL playoff game wins as Tim Tebow.

Not a bad paycheck for about the 12th best QB in the league and the Cowboys could have been eliminated from the playoffs without him.

Romo? What is the front office of the Cowboys thinking? While I applaud that less is being taken from his taxes, what are they smoking in the front office to give him that kind of contract?? They act like they have an incarnation of Joe Montana when they should have cut him loose years ago.

What they failed to consider in their analysis is that athletes pay the state income taxes for the state where the money is earned. I don’t know the schedules of NO vs. Dallas, however we know that Romo will pay a high rate when he travels to play the Giants, Eagles and Redskin potatos.

Imagine the nightmare to file taxes for baseball players! I’d hate to try and figure out their taxes for 81 away games!

Romo doesn’t play defense or offensive line. The defense for Dallas has collapsed at the end of the last 3 seasons. The offensive line has been just that, offensive. They suck! Romo has had to run for his life the last 3 seasons. No one seems to talk about how the guy finnished a game and brought his team from behind to beat San Francisco with a collapsed lung. Give Romo a god defense and a decent offensive line, and he will win a Super Bowl.

Demarcus Ware was playing injured most of the last season. He has had surgery and should be back to his old form next year.

Cowboys reward the biggest player choker in years with a big, fat contract. What a joke.

Defense has to stay too long on the field due to Romo’s screwups.

Aikman before he began forgetting plays due to concussions, was a much better quarterback than Romo.
