WASHINGTON, - Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts told a Maryland coffee shop cashier he was the victim of credit card information theft.
Roberts, who normally pays for his morning coffee with a credit card, paid with cash Tuesday and explained to the cashier that he had been forced to cancel his credit card when someone was able to obtain his numbers, The Washington Post reported Friday.
He should have listened to Rush about Obamacare AND LifeLock.
How weird. Why would he have to explain himself even if he did pay with credit card everyday. He paid with cash so what. Millions have had to cancel their credit cards because a hacker tried to use it. Heck I have had to cancel a bank card three times over the last 3 years because of it.
Credit card amounts were being charged from bath houses all over DC.
So it MUST have been stolen.
Stolen credit card, followed by fraud?

Well, you get to be friendly with the people in a place, they know your habits, and when you do something different you may very well get into talking about it.
“I’m John Roberts... Do you know me?”
After last year, apparently not.
I have seen case after case of credit card fraud where the victim could do little or nothing. The courts have provided numerous protections to hackers and perpetrators of fraud.
The honest citizen is at their mercy.

Apparently he was buying coffee from Starbucks - the we back gay marriage and if you don’t like it, sell your stock. Error on his part to get his coffee there or not-so-subtle clue as to which way he will vote?
We peasants are supposed to be fascinated by everything that happens in the lives of our rulers, no matter how trivial.
The absolute worst place to use your credit card is in a resturant. It gets removed from your sight and control and then anyone can copydown your number, exp. date, and security code on the reverse side. Roberts got what he set up for himself.
I hope some illegal alien in Dallas has assumed his identity and driving a new car, with a fancy new Walmart dude outfit.
The thing is, I seldom used that card, hadn't used it for many months, and the only charge on it recently at that time, was buying a cup from Newt Gingrich’s website. The card went from buying that cup to overseas purchases by someone. I'm glad I used that card I hardly used, instead of my main one which I pay off every month.
So, your card numbers can be stolen by just buying a small item on the web. It could be that Newt's website didn't have the proper safety “equipment” on it to prevent the stealing of numbers.
For personal contact, I do now have that special case to put cards in so the numbers can't be sucked off by a magnetic whatever by someone when I go to the grocery or other store. They can be sucked off from inside your purse. My cards are safe in the metal holder. These holders are cheap so if you don't have one, think about it. I got mine from Amazon.
All people were children at one time - what happens to make them criminals? Well, the mental reasons for that are numerous, but if a person is smart enough to get your numbers, they are smart enough to know they are criminals and stealing money and I wouldn't care if they were put in prison for life.
It isn’t the courts jobs to help you fight identity theft. It is police, prosecutors and the legislature. But you are right that it is a big problem, and victims have little help or recourse.

No real man uses a credit card for a $3.00 purchase.
The look on Justice Thomas’ face says it all.

No one wants the courts to be directly involved in fighting identity fraud. But those who do fight identity theft are forced to operate under the rules set down by the courts and the politicians. The courts in the U.S. have created rules that protect the thieves and fraud operators. They make it extremely difficult to protect the honest citizens.
