Disturbing Leaked Video Shows Alleged Mistreatment of Maine Inmate Bound to Chair

This is pretty disturbing.

I, personally, have dealt with anxiety and panic attacks, or PTSD (because of a lot of family trauma). This guy is clearly exhibiting the symptoms. Do I know his situation? No. Do I believe in waterboarding of terrorists trying to destroy our country? Absolutely. So, let's get THAT out of the way.

I will expect to get flamed. That's OK. PTSD is a misunderstood condition.

Been through a lot in my life. Getting stronger every day! :-) Can't imagine what a soldier may go though.

OMG, the hysterics of it all! Strapped to a chair!!! That’s so different from being able to stand there and ... do nothing until the burning subsides. In 20 minutes. Mask strapped to his face!!!!!!! Oh, the huge manatee! It was a cloth mask that was simply pulled down over his mouth, no different than having a bandana on. Are all the anxiety-stricken neurotics going to weigh in on this?

He is not psychotic, he has an anxiety disorder.

OK, doctor.

Since everyone else seems to think that straw men and red herrings are the only arguments worth putting forth here's mine...

When will you all go work in a prison with psychotic, excuse me, anxiety disorder inmates?

Could I deal with a person like that for 17 minutes? Since I assume he was behind a cell door I would do my best to calm him down, convince him to take his medication, if that did not work, put him in a padded cell and in suicide proof clothing. If restraint was need, I would do that, but then not spray him in the face because he got on my nerves.

Also if you must know, I am studying to be a prison chaplain/social worker and working with people like this would be my life goal.

Without any other guards you, without any SWAT gear on yourself, are "going to put him in a padded cell."

Well, that's real humane, a padded cell by himself. Solitary. With the clear implication that you think he's crazy. Are you just trying to tear his mind to pieces?

Also if you must know, ...

I didn't ask.

My daughter is a therapist at a state hospital for the criminally insane. I’ll ask her opinion.

Well, I must say, that’s a pretty big stretch in answering a previous question. But if you feel it is good..it’s good enough for me.

I have already suggested that you were messing around, but you said that wasn’t the case.

So, the only other thing I can think of..is that you are needing attention this evening.

Good for me, my attention span isn’t too long.

I needed no attention. No more than anyone who posts on an internet forum. I made my comment in the form of a question and received insults, straw men and red herrings in a flurry and tried to respond to them all. If responding to posts is attention seeking I think I have some company here.

I don’t know why the hell anyone would want to do that for a living. Anyway, if you see her coming with the probe, it’s probably best to just cooperate...

Yes, I did ask that. It was meant as a rhetorical question mirroring the red herring questions posed to me but I’ll give you that. I did ask it. I wish you luck with your career. It sounds like a noble calling and I mean that sincerely. I will say that if you think what happened in that video was harsh you had better gird your loins for what you’re going to see in a prison.

I wouldn’t want to do it either. Nor be a prison guard. I tend to tense up when I see any woman approaching me these days even if they’re smiling. Long story. A few long stories actually. ;^)

Sure, has it ever occurred to you? Do you often second-guess yourself in the middle of a point you’re making? How long have you had this self confidence issue? lol

Disturbing. Looks like he is known to the police:

http://www.pressherald.com/news/robbery-spree-lands-suspect-in-hot-coffee_2010-08-27.html?pageType=mobile&id=1

A Standish man’s Thursday morning crime spree, which included trying to steal an ambulance from Maine Medical Center and three armed robberies, came to a messy end when a McDonald’s worker doused the man with hot coffee as he stole a cash register, police said.

Officers descended on St. John Street at 6 a.m., and Paul Schlosser tried to escape by climbing into the passenger side of a car stopped at a nearby ATM. He ordered the motorist to drive off, but the man refused, and moments later police took Schlosser into custody.

Chief James Craig said Schlosser’s spate of armed robberies was driven by his need for drugs, and investigators are exploring whether he may be responsible for a series of unsolved crimes in the West End.

Craig declined to release photographs of Schlosser, a baby-faced 25-year-old with short blond hair, because police may ask victims if they can identify him in a lineup.

Officers had been on the lookout for Schlosser ever since a reported knifepoint robbery at Cumberland Farms on Pine Street shortly after midnight.

A man had entered the store, threatened the clerk with a knife and fled with cash in a red Subaru that had been reported stolen a few days earlier, Craig said at a news conference. He said officers recognized Schlosser on the store’s security video.

“It should be noted that Schlosser over the past five years has been arrested 30 times for crimes (such as) burglary, theft, possession of drugs, probation violation and driving offenses,” Craig said. “We got a bad guy off the street.” [snip]

I think everyone second guesses themselves from time to time.

Given the original topic of this thread..yes..”I have self confidence issues” about the morality of macing a person who is restrained. No matter what they have done.

But I appreciate the look you have given me into the other side.

So, you’re convinced it was mace and not pepper spray? If I thought that was the case I might agree that it was uncalled for. Pepper spray is no big deal. It just takes the fight out of most people. Others it makes angry.
