I have a question. Having seen only two episodes, I don’t know much about the series. How does Daryl use the crossbow? Its a good SHTF weapon, but it doesn’t seem like a good zombie weapon, because it would have to go through the skull.

In the show it seems to go through skulls pretty easily. Probably not that true to real life, but it looks cool! The main thing is that it’s a quiet weapon, and these zombies (Walkers) are attracted to sounds/noise.

Actually, it is a good weapon for that. The zombie is caused by a parasite/virus that has infected the brain of the dead. The only way to re-kill them is with a severe head wound -- bullet, arrow, knife/ax/sword, etc.

An arrow from a crossbow can penetrate deep.

300 fps arrow would go into the skull no problem.

He shoots the zombies in the skull. Retrieves arrows to reuse.
His advantages over a gun are silence and not having to worry about ammo.

Don't know if you saw the episode a couple of weeks back where Glenn stomped a walker to death---boot to skull---but it's pretty clear by now that the walkers' heads are sort of like rotting melons. (ugh)

Actually it seems to work pretty well at penetrating the head. FWIW, he's not using broadheads on the arrows.......

You have to understand - anything Daryl does is gold, meaning wonderful and sexy - just ask Catherine of Aragon. His “arrows” fly through those skulls and brains like they are butter. We women love Daryl.
