School Confiscates Cupcakes Decorated with Toy Soldiers

A Michigan elementary school is defending its decision to confiscate a third-graders batch of homemade cupcakes because the birthday treats were decorated with plastic green Army soldiers.

Casey Fountain told Fox News that the principal of his son’s elementary school called the cupcakes “insensitive” — in light of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

“It disgusted me,” he said. “It’s vile they lump true American heroes with psychopathic killers.”

Fountain’s wife made a batch of 30 chocolate cupcakes for their son Hunter’s classmates at Schall Elementary School in the town of Caro. The 9-year-old helped decorate the treats with plastic figurines representing World War Two soldiers.

The following morning Fountain said his wife delivered the cupcakes to the front office. The secretary complimented her on the decorations and then took the cakes to Hunter’s class.

“About 15 minutes later the school called my wife and told her the couldn’t serve the cupcakes because the soldiers had guns,” Fountain told Fox News. “My wife told them to remove the soldiers and serve the cupcakes anyway — and I believe she may have used more colorful language.”

The school complied and confiscated the soldiers — sending them home with Hunter in a bag.

“I was offended,” Fountain said. “I support our soldiers and what they stand for. These (plastic soldiers) are representations of World War Two soldiers – our greatest generation. If they aren’t allowed in our schools — who is?”

Perfect!! Actually I thought the school would’ve chastised her for bringing so much sugar into the classroom. Some schools around here have banned cakes, cupcakes, etc. to celebrate a kid’s birthday. How did I ever make it to the age I am?

Heh... Time for Government schools to be disbanded and let the private sector take over... Actually way past time!

Can’t imagine a worse situation than letting your kids go to Public Schools!

Ms. Wright shoulda have been a teacher in my elementary school.

Boys brought their .22 long rifles to school once a week to participate in a rifle club. Rifles were put in the coat room nest to your coat hook. Some teachers made the boys put their ammo on the teacher’s desk. Most teachers allowed it to rattle around in the kid’s pocket.

To my knowledge, no gun was ever stolen or misused.

We’ve fallen so far and so fast.

Principal Susan Wright released a statement to local media defending the decision. “These are toys that were commonplace in the past,” she wrote. “However, some parents prohibit all guns as toys. In light of that difference, the school offered to replace the soldiers with another item and the soldiers were returned home with the student.....” I'll bet miniature Gay Bob dolls would be allowed. http://www.wiltondriveonline.com/news/gay-bob-doll/

I’d give anything to see a small detachment of actual soldiers, in full dress uniform- with medals- show up at the school and have a nice “talk” with Ms Susan Wright and ‘splain to her just how the military works and why she’s not speaking German or Japanese right now. Love to listen to a few of them tell about some of their experiences on the battlefield, so SHE can sit safely in her cushy NEA supported job and live long enough to draw her taxpayer provided obscene pension.

I know it being Michigan and a school “gun free zone”, they couldn’t bring their weapons with them, but wouldn’t that be quite the sight to see. Ms Wright blanching and puking with fear at the sight of the tools of the soldier’s trade. The very things they have to use to keep her and her ilk free.

Maybe each one with war wounds, like missing limbs, could politely explain just how “offended” they are by Ms Wright’s complete lack of respect for opposing opinions and that they’re not impressed with her claim of “no disrespect for our military” and their sacrifice for our country. And that they’d really like to have her explain how her actions allow the children have “respectful dialogues” about something she will not allow in the school.

I’m mentally picturing about a half dozen ramrod straight, decorated soldiers, standing at parade rest, and each one stepping forward to very forcefully provide the “respectful dialogue” that she will not allow.

I can dream, can’t I?

How could anyone entrust their children to raving lunatics like this?

From the school’s website:

“Effective immediately, no adults, except school personnel, will be allowed past the office entrance before 8:15a.m. without administrator permission. Parents and visitors will not be allowed past the office until after 3:30p.m. If you have something that needs to go to your child’s classroom a staff member will deliver it for you. If you need to contact a teacher, a phone call, written note or e-mail are your first options. Appointments can be made with 24 hour notice. Our office door will be locked so parents and visitors will need to knock and we will unlock the door for you.

Volunteers are welcome at Schall with prior arrangement with a teacher and must have cleared the required state background check (state law). Parents and relatives continue to be welcome for lunch visits and are required to have a background check.”

These kids are in prison and the parents are treated like visitors. A background check to visit your child in school?

One of the few things I remember about kindergarten was the big sand table filled with toy soldiers and tanks. What is the world coming to?

Blame the parents. They ultimately control the local school district and the local politicians.

They should be able to get rid of these people, but they’d rather have the government raise their kids.

Maybe the NRA would offer to send this school some free Eddie Eagle curriculum. It’s a great program.
