Joe Paterno's widow to appear on Katie Couric's talk show
LA Times ^ | 2-5-13 | Chuck Schilken

Joe Paterno's widow is to give her first interview since the Jerry Sandusky scandal and her husband's subsequent death, appearing on Katie Couric's daytime talk show in an episode scheduled to air Monday.

Sue Paterno, who was married to the legendary Penn State football coach for 50 years, is scheduled to talk with Couric in studio for the nationally syndicated show "Katie." The two have already gotten together at Paterno's home in State College, Pa.

Joe Paterno was head coach of the Nittany Lions for almost as long as he was married, from 1966 into 2011. He led the team to two national titles and 409 victories, which was a major-college record until 111 of those wins were voided by the NCAA as part of the fallout from the Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

Paterno was fired by the school in the days after the scandal broke in late 2011. He died from lung cancer in January 2012. His on-campus statue was removed last July, days after he and three other former school officials were accused by former FBI director Louis Freeh, who headed the school's investigation into the scandal, of covering up allegations against Sandusky.

Many Penn State faithful, including members of Paterno's family, feel that the former coach's role in the scandal has been overblown.

Sue Paterno's chat will be Couric's second big sports-related interview in recent weeks. Late last month, she talked with former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o in his first comments since revealing that his supposed late girlfriend actually never existed.

I don’t think it is hard to believe that Paterno’s wife didn’t know.

Sandusky’s wife; she had to know.

Not just hanging around the job site by himself, but always with a young boy as his date to banquets to away games on the field and locker room.

Where did you get the idea that mm told Joe that js was having “butseks” (as you call whatever it was) in that shower?

Because mm’s testimony says that never happened. Are you sure you know what mm told Joe Paterno? Or are you just repeating headlines and talking out of your own behind?

After he was fired, Sandusky still showed up at Penn State events with young boys on his arm.

Sandusky and his "date" would sit up on the dias with the other Penn State officials and then retire to their room at the end of the night.

Joe Pa chose not to notice. That's reprehensible and unforgivable.

Sandusky was around kids his entire adult life. As Franco said - “he groomed the whole town.”

If you DIDN’T see him with young boys, it was an aberration.

Again - where is the accountability of all the agencies that allowed this to go on.

Why is Joe Paterno somehow accountable?

If you DIDN’T see him with young boys, it was an aberration.

And why was that? Why was he (and his young male dates) allowed to travel with the team to bowl games and sleep in the same hotel room - AFTER he was seen raping a boy in the football locker room showers?!?! Sandusky and victim 4 (age 12) would sit at the coaches table at pre-game banquets at Toftrees and sleep in the same hotel room there too.

Again - where is the accountability of all the agencies that allowed this to go on. Why is Joe Paterno somehow accountable?

They're all accountable!!

The reason nobody, including Joe Pa, did anything was because they were all reluctant to tarnish the Penn State football program.

They're all despicable. Joe Pa and the rest of the people who let boys continue to be raped rather than embarrass the program.

Joe was about a lot more than sports - you know that.

This is hardly about sports at all. This is about the media and people like you gobbling up their garbage.

Prove to me that JVP had anything to say about that. Did he even like it? I don't think so. Could he do anything about it?

JVP, "Hello officer, I am calling in regard about a former coach that I fired, and I think he is having sex with a 12 year old in his hotel room." Officer, "did you you see this happen?" JVP, "No, but I am sure he doesn't believe in his charity and helping youngsters and I think he will rape any young boy he is exposed." Officer, "Are there any previous charges on this guy?" JVP, "No." Officer, "I am sorry I can't do anything based on your guesses. You didn't see anything, and I can't do anything."

BTW, Paterno was a conservative and a Republican. If you didn't know that asswipe, perhaps you don't know JVP or the story around Sandusky other than whom you heard from ESPN (a bunch of liberals).

Why is Joe Paterno somehow accountable?

Wasn't he the head football coach? The CEO of the PSU football program? Wasn't there a statue of the man on campus ? What does that indicate to you?

Are you sure you know what mm told Joe Paterno?

Grand Jury report, page 7:

"Paterno called Tim Curley, Penn State Athletic Director and Paterno's immediate superior, to his home the next day, a Sunday, and reported to him that the graduate assistant had seen Jerry Sandusky in the Lasch Building fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy."

Joe knew and still let Sandusky bring young boys on campus, on bowl game trips and to Penn State dinners, where he sat with the coaches.

Could he do anything about it?

Are you telling me that Joe Pa had no say in who accompanied the Penn State football team on bowl game trips and sat at the coach's table at pre-game dinners?!?! And he couldn't stop Sandusky from showering with young boys on campus?!?

Goodnight. I'm disgusted and done.

So he was responsible for the actions of an ex-employee - that the b.o.t gave campus access to? Help me out here...

BTW, Paterno was a conservative and a Republican.

That's exactly the "home team" mentality that allowed those boys to be raped for decades. You're despicable.

Paterno was certainly about more than sports - he was about enabling a homosexual predator with access to young flesh. And about how the scandal would damage the school’s revenue and reputation.

Keep your insults and your talk of garbage. The only garbage is the Lavendar Mafia and their enablers.

Why is he still walking the streets?”

Well it's probably going on in your town somewhere. So what have you done about it??? Get out there and start accusing people -- even if you have no evidence. C'mon start accusing people that you suspect on suspicion alone -- that's good enough.

And if it's a false accusation, hey no worry. It's the seriousness of the charge that is important -- not its accuracy.

Not responsible for the actions, but accountable for allowing that creep Sandusky anywhere near the PSU athletic facilities. Paterno wasn't just some 2nd rate coach at a mid conference school for cripes sake.

But he wasn't the Director of the 2nd Mile Charity, the Director of Child Welfare Services, the Director of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, the Athletic Director, the VP of the University or the President of the University, the PA Attorney General, or the PA Governor, or even the supposed eye witness -- and they all knew more than he did and were required to do more and yet did nothing.

So what was your question???

There is one name missing and that is Graham Spanier, he let Sandusky hang around and even gave him special status to do so. Remember that it was Spanier that had the C-fest and the Sex fair. thsi man promoted this agenda and that is who should be put into the meat grinder!

You haven't read the Freeh report have you???

Sandusky was permitted by his retirement agreement with the university to bring kids to the football facilities over Joe Paterno's objections that were documented and in writing.

After the McQueary incident those privileges that were in his retirement agreement were revoked.

Go read the Freeh Report --
