For all the Heisman Trophy winners and national championships that Ohio State, Texas and Southern California have combined to produce, those marquee football programs have never had one of their quarterbacks start a Super Bowl. The same is true for Oregon, Auburn and a host of other traditional powerhouses. ---SNIP--- Even outside of Super Bowl starts, Delaware, led for years by the Hall of Fame coach Tubby Raymond, has produced an almost staggering number of N.F.L. quarterbacks for a university that does not play in the Football Bowl Subdivision

For many years, starting about the same time as the super bowl, Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama all ran the triple option.

Very few triple option QBs make NFL type quarterbacks.

Now that I think about it, an Alabama QB was named mvp of the first two super bowls. Didn’t Joe Namath win a super bowl?

Stabler was one of the all time greats but did he play in a super bowl?

I always thought that an interesting name. Also Larry Byrd was from “French Lick” Indiana.

Joe played for Alabama tho.

Bear Bryant said Namath was a really great athlete. That surprised me as I always just thought of him as having a great arm but not necessarily athletic.

I have heard tell he was a very good running QB until he tore his knees up.

Brady has been in 5 Super Bowls, and like Terry Bradshaw, his personal success has not been indicative of his Alma Mater.

Out of 94 starters (excluding replacements like Norris Weese - RIP ), there have only been 56 different quarterbacks.
