My guess is there is a BFA (blank firing adapter) in the end of the barrel and he is shooting a blank. Which explains the smoke.

I have not shot skeet for several years but the picture looks staged...several things look wrong...

One picture? Of the most photographed person on earth doing something "he does all the time"?. I don't think so. A screen capture from video or one still from a movie of the moment after the load leaves the barrel. To prove that he acctually shot the gun. Obviously posed (like most everything Obama does). Probably on a dare or a bet. If he shot all the time there would be more pics than him playing golf. We know this is posed.
Notice venting up. Anti-recoil porting on the top barrel of a small barreled over/under? 20 ga? 28ga.? That's a girl's gun. Obama is skinny, but with a "heavy" gun like an o/u, he ought to be able to shoot a 12ga. with skeet (light) loads. Notice his grip, not relaxed where he could swing on a moving air-borne target, but hanging on like it was .458 Weatherby Magnum. Stance is wrong, too. He either doesn't know what he is doing, not shooting at a target, or scared of the damn thing. Or all 3. Wuss.
He's just shooting down range, barrel is pointed too low, even though it is in full recoil. This is just a propaganda shot. Where are all the pics taken fom behind that show him "dusting" the clay pigeons? Don't exist, that's why we aren't shown them.
It's been years since I shot skeet, so I might be wrong, but the only thing believable about this is it was probably shot during warm weather - see the short sleeve shirt and green, lush woods in the background. Also real expert competators sometimes compete with small gauge shotguns, but that doesn't look like the case here.
