Mother Nature is an evil bitch that wants us dead. We know this, we accept it, we try to burn one plant a day as petty revenge against her for it and we move on with our lives. But sometimes her traps are so unsubtle, so obviously, blatantly designed to do nothing but murder human beings in the most awful ways possible that we can't help but stand and applaud her sheer balls. In that spirit, here are five of Mother Nature's more vicious bear traps:

As with everything from cracked.com there is foul language.

I particularly liked The Bolton Strid in Yorkshire.

Hmmm, no mention of Chicago. But then, the landscape isn’t all that great anyways.........

Wow, that Strid sounds like serious business.

And I liked this caption under the first one with the limestone spikes: “Sometimes the formations produce Yes album covers just to mess with you.”

That is some scary sh*t...

The Bolton Strid in Yorkshire

Right out of King Arthur or Harry Potter

A small little calm stream in a beautiful meadow that will KILL you dead 100% of the time if you put more than a toe in it...and never give up any bodies...

The Strid sounds like a perfect place to take an soon-to-be ex, when they start divorce proceedings. Just a weekend to get away and talk about it, you’d tell her.

The Corryvreckan Maelstrom looks pretty wicked.

This one is too good:

The Strid sounds like a great place to raise kids. It's always good to have a Darwin test around.

Great site. They use some foul language, but not much. It’s more to keep their target audience engaged (i.e., those in public schools and those that went to public schools).

The Strid is intense, but the “Yes” album cover is hysterical.

One landscape that should be included will actually kill you while you are just standing there. Those are the glacial silt “beaches” around Anchorage, Alaska and environs.

When the tide is out, they just look and act like typical gray sand. You can stand and walk on them just fine. But when the tide comes back in, it does so underneath your feet, and from “solid ground”, you suddenly plunge downward three feet into thick, sandy chocolate pudding. And once you are down, nobody is strong enough to get their legs out of that vacuum.

And then the tide comes in over the top, and you drown.

It happens frequently enough so that there is a helicopter rescue. No, not directly, because if it tried to lift you out it would tear your legs out of their sockets.

But a very, very brave man, with “mud snowshoes”, and a pressurized backpack full of water lands next to you, inserts a tube next to your legs, which sprays enough water down their to hopefully break the suction.

He works quickly, because he has to. And though there are signs and constant warnings everywhere, dumbasses still go for walks on that silt, and die.

Thank you, I had never heard of the glacial silt beaches. It ought to be on this list.

Urban-8th-grader language aside....it was very entertaining. I enjoyed the read (and will scrupulously avoid ALL 5 sites....yeesh.....).

I think because it is imaginary. I’ve been to Toadsuck AR. Didn’t see anything resembling what they described. In fact it is on a river.

No, I don’t have a link. I like my sausage in patties, not links. Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk. I’m sorry. Some days I’m a knucklehead.

Worked at a site with similar weathered limestone rock. The top edges are VERY sharp as the water wears them down to a knife edge. Like a flint arrow I suppose. Tears up the bottom of your Vibram boots. A buddy slipped on a wet rock and gashed his leg pretty good when he landed.
