The Worst Movie Ever? Stars Shun 'Movie 43' And Critics Fume Over Gross-Out Comedy
Entertainmentwise ^

Seen those posters on the tube for 'Movie 43', seen its all-star cast? Wondered why aside from those posters that proclaim it hilarious and show us the incredible cast, you haven't heard hide nor hair of it?

Well wonder no more, because the film has been released, and immediately nearly everyone who's seen it is kicking up a stink.

The film consists of various short movies, acted out by its A-List stars, with a tendency towards gross-out humour as is to be expected with Peter Farrelly involved in direction.

The amazing cast includes Hugh Jackman, Gerard Butler, Richard Gere, Jason Sudeikis, Liev Schreiber, Seth McFarlane, Kate Winslet, Kate Bosworth, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Uma Thurman and Anna Faris, but the movie hasn't been press screened, nor promoted and its apparently with very good reason.

Lou Lummenik for The New York Post wrote: "Well, if you mashed-up the worst parts of the infamous 'Howard the Duck,' 'Gigli,’ 'Ishtar’' and every other awful movie I’ve seen since I started reviewing professionally in 1981, it wouldn’t begin to approach the sheer soul-sucking badness of the cringe-inducing 'Movie 43,' which has been dumped on an unsuspecting public without advance press screenings."

Maybe it will be one of those “so bad that it’s good” things....?

I assume Mark Worgan, the writer of this piece, meant to
say “there”.

Sounds like Obama needs to throw a party for the movie and its stars in the White House. Press not invited.

The modern age of spoof is depressing. They don’t spoof anymore, they just refer, actually making a joke apparently takes too much time, but putting together scenes everyone will recognize from movie trailers is somehow supposed t obe funny. It’s all the Wayans brothers’ fault, they started it with Scary Movie. Mel Brooks needs to hold a symposium before he dies, how to spoof.

I’ve actually seen a few television ads for this film. I could tell from those that the film would be an absolute stinker.

Were Airplane and The Naked Gun really that much better?

I don't know if Scary Movie was that awful, but all the sequels were pretty bad.

I blame Family Guy. The whole idea that you don't have a joke or comic situation that fits into the plot but just drag in some non sequitur, some off-the wall comment or scene that has nothing to do with story. It makes a show like 30 Rock unwatchable (assuming it would be watchable otherwise).

nothing can be worse than the standard adam sandler movie.

“invent unbelievable character with impossible diction. make same humor. overcome absurd obstacle. get girl”

waterboy, little niki, billy madison, don’t mess with zohan, etc, etc.

It sounds like they’ve done nothing more than rip off “Kentucky Fried Movie,” or John Landis’ hilarious “Amazon Women on the Moon,” but added “A list” actors.

I have to admit I might check it out once it gets released for free viewing on Amazon Prime, but it does sound like something of a stinker.

It’s been in the can for a long time, and a lot of marketing money has been spent trying to figure out what to do with it, to no avail. So now they’re dumping it out.

Airplane was, that’s one of the funniest movies ever made. Naked Gun was OK. Scary Movie wasn’t awful, but it provided the blueprint for the awful that has come. At least Family Guy is trying to be funny, non-sequitor humor can work, the classic WB cartoons are filled with it. But these current spoofs have devolved to “you will recognize this scene, so laugh dammit”, might as well just be a guy holding up pictures.

I will see “Parker” this weekend and will post a review.

When I saw the trailer on TV, my first thought was that this was a remake of "Payback" with Mel Gibson and Mariaa Bello. It was a good, fun, "rootin' for the bad-guy" sort of movie," movie... Gibson's character, "Porter," was a serious bad guy, but he had been done wrong by other "bad guys," and just wanted to set things right. Of course, that took a lot of killing...

I'd like to hear how "Parker" is, and if you haven't seen it, afterwards be sure to check out "Payback."
