I don’t think it was only the Heisman or media lies. It was probably something Manti got sucked into and continued to embellish that he even mentioned ‘girlfriend’ twice after being informed it was a hoax and the Heisman votes were in. Probably more for the attention than anything.

The media deserve this. They are always trying to find some melodramatic personal story to wallow in when it comes to sports figures. There was a satirical piece in The Onion about an Olympic athlete who was working on a compelling personal story.

Liberals are ruining everything, including sports. Can’t we just watch the games? Do we have to hear about every competitor who lost a relative and is playing for him or her? It’s enough to make one gag. Costas and Mussberger are two of the worst offenders when it comes to blathering endlessly about a sob story. Oh, and even worse than those clowns is one of the announcers on Fox Sports Midwest who does the STL Cardinals games. He never talks about the game, just the schmaltz. Makes me want to kick in the TV.

This guy’s is taking a lot of flack about his fake girlfriend. I don’t recall Hussein getting that much coverage when it was revealed that the girlfriend he wrote about in his book was fake. “Julia”, was it? All this Manti guy needs to say was that his girlfriend was “a composite”. Easy peasy.
At least being gay you would have practice dealing with by 22. This just came out of the blue and seemed to completely overwhelm him. He was duped and lied about it. We get that. But he is still the same person. Still plays the same. Nothing has changed about this man. Hopefully the media will leave him alone before it drives him to be suicidal.

The wife thinks he’s gay and is overcompensating.
I think he wanted a tragic story of unbelievable proportions that would become one of the most celebrated stories of heroism in US sport, not any tart on campus.
Hence the suspicion that he’s gay.
I don’t know whether Manti is or not but this is evidence of a lot else other than that. I would be surprised if this was the way he suddenly tried to ‘hide’ being gay. The whole episode is probably going to hurt him in the draft anway.
Reminds me of Gabby Douglas and the “racist gym” in which she was supposedly the only black gymnast. I can think of six who were in the gym every day with her. And that was over six years ago. Several of them have graduated college now and are in medical school and/or graduate school. They are great young women who were also elite level gymnasts. Those girls immediately cried foul. And yet the national media does not care to change their storyline. And US Gymnastics does not correct the storyline. Because they would then be labeled as racists. Maybe Gabby has corrected the story by now and I missed it, but I doubt it.
I’m so sick of this stupid story dominating the news.
So it was a joke or whatever. SO WHAT?
