My wife retired her 9mm today.

After reading the story of the mother who shot the home invader 5 times, she went to the store and bought a Beretta PX-4 in .45acp.Anybody have any experience with this weapon?

Beginners should start with NRA Certified training

I would recommend training
from an NRA Certified Instructor in

Refuse to be a victim
NRA training for women
Basic pistol
Personal protection in the home
and the newly released
Personal protection outside the home

NRA Gun Safety Rules

Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction

Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot

Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use

NRA T/C CRSO

Not as bad as those short barrel .357’s.The muzzle blast is appalling with those things.

I checked one out in a gun store the other day. I can’t speak to function as I didn’t fire it, but I loved the ergonomics. It fit my hand perfectly. I may need one.

I have fired many large bore handguns. However, one of the most punishing loads I have dealt with is a 158gr .357 fired from a Rossi with a 2in barrel.

I shot a S&W 2.5 inch barrelled .357,I thought the muzzle blast was going to burn off my eyebrows.I thought that a 4 inch barrel was bad until I shot that thing.

You were probably focused on the guns.

You had a boating accident too?!

Huh, what are the odds of that!

I really miss my Glock, but it was too deep to get to.

Me too, isn't that strange. I had a GPS running when we went over and all my gear went down in the deepest part of the lake. When the GPS hit the drink I marked the bottom of the boat with a big black "X" to mark the spot. Just my luck when I came back later somebody else had rented the boat...rats!

Regards,
GtG

Actualy the 9mm and 38 special shoot the same caliber round. the .38 just has alot more powder (velocity) behind it.

Ballistics 101: 9mm vs .38 Special

(Spoiler alert: 9mm has almost double the muzzle energy of the .38 Special. The .38 Special cartridge is much longer because it was first designed to use black power. 9mm was designed from the start to use smokless powder.)

There is a reason they call the .45 ACP “The Flying Ashtray” 9mm is not a dependable stopping round. (In some cases)

No handgun round is a dependable stopping round. That includes the 44 magnum.

“That situation had nothing to do with caliber, and everything to do with not being able to shoot worth a damn. Get momma off her butt and take her to the range once a month - 100 to 150 rounds per session should be fine.”

I think acquiring a handgun with a laser will work just fine in lieu of practice. Point the little red dot where you want the bullet to hit, hold steady and shoot.

This will sound stupid but should you get a gun first. My husband and I are wanting to get a gun we know nothing and some Freepers have said go to a shop that has a range and you can try different guns out before you buy so should we do that before we take a NRA class? I do know we have to take a test and get a HSC bfore we can get the gun I live in Cali and they are strict here. To be honest with you it is a bit overwhelming.
