Robert Griffin III's lies, Mike Shanahan's poor management doom Redskins in playoffs
yahoo sports ^ | Dan Wetzel

Posted on 01/07/2013 10:18:47 AM PST by Perdogg

Robert Griffin III couldn't run, at least not in any way resembling his usual sprints through the line and into open turf. Robert Griffin III couldn't throw, at least not the deep darts that move the chains and keep defenses honest.

Robert Griffin III couldn't lead the Washington Redskins' offense, not after his knee buckled in the first quarter of this NFC wild-card game against Seattle. A couple plays later Washington took a two-touchdown lead but the deal was done. It would gain just 41 yards over the next two and a half futile quarters with Griffin as quarterback, all but assuring Seattle's 24-14 victory.

maybe RGIII really believed everything he was saying... put this one on the coach...

Absolutely. I felt like they were going to run him out there until he was either dead or in a wheel-chair. I don't care what he said. Anybody continuously hobbling from a knee injury needs to be out of the game and on the way to the MRI room.

I think calling RG3 a liar is a little harsh and just wrong. You are right though about Shanahan being the blame.

I don’t know if he will recover. One of the concerns about RG3 was his knee, and that he was injury-prone. He has never fully recovered from his 2009 season with Baylor, imho.

Do not agree with Wetzel on this article....but do not understand all the ‘Wetzel is a liberal’ comments.

Wetzel’s ‘Death to the BCS’ really exposes the fraud the college bowl system is. And his book on Jerry Tarkanian is a good read for those who think the NCAA is corrupt....as well as his book on Don Haskins

RGIII was obviously more injured than believed. However, you can bet on it that the same people whining about RG3/Skins were the same ones whining about Jay Cutler pulling himself out of the Bears playoff game 2 years ago

Read the article - he's a lot harder on Shanahan, and I think he makes a very good case. (Yes, I played football.)

I did read the article and take issue with Wetzel calling RGIII a liar.

Yes, there he went too far - but RGIII didn't belong on the field.

I so admire RG3 and your young quarterback Russell Wilson. I can’t imagine Pete Carroll leaving Wilson in, under similar circumstances, given his dedication at the University coaching level. It just wouldn’t occur to Carroll.

Shanahan is totally at fault.

No wonder it is called “arm-chair quarterbacking.”

Tell me, If Shanahan has pulled RGIII immediately after the 1st quarter, and the Skins went on to lose, what would Skins fans have said????

I’ll tell you - they would have FREAKED OUT. Why did Shanny pull RGIII????!!!!

It is the quarterback's job to be completely fearless and to try to put mind over matter.

It is the coach's job to evaluate whether his quarterback is fooling himself or not.

Shanahan abdicated his responsibilities.

It was clear by halftime that Griffin was not able to pull it off, and that his best bet was Cousins.

However, Shanahan preferred to almost certainly lose with Griffin rather than probably lose with Cousins, because he was afraid that the loss would be pinned on him for pulling his star quarterback.

That was good politics, until Griffin got even more injured.

Like the Skins didn’t mow through your imagined best defense on their first 2 drives? the only drives that the shins played with a functioning QB? Get a grip!!

Yeah, that awful, terrible, nasty , no-good Griffin...imagine trying to play through pain to help your team. What a despicable example for our youth!! What kind of example does this set for all those kids who have their minds set on being quitters when the going gets tough? (smirk)

And oh, btw, as a Skins fan I have to tip my hat to the Seahawks rookie QB. I was totally impressed with My Wilson! He was outstanding. (of course he IS a Virginian!) ;-)

I might add, I don't know why Dan Snyder wasn't on the phone to the field demanding that his franchise quarterback be pulled. Maybe he's a short-sighted idiot too, but even a short-sighted idiot should have wanted to win the game and Cousins had won games! RG3 was ineffective after the 14-0 and it was painfully obvious to me, a woman!!

I think that was sort of the hook. He was talking about RGIII lying even too himself, not willing to admit to himself that he was too injured to play. In baseball, pitchers never voluntarily leave the mound. It’s up to the manager to make the call and pull them off. I would think the same thing basically holds with an NFL QB.

Right, the fact that it was even suggested RGIII might be a Republican during this Parker fiasco probably “did him in” with the msm. Add RG to the OPEN SEASON list!

It was painfully obvious RG3 couldn’t run.
That’s half his game!
The statistics proved that and were there for all to see.

Shanahan failed the fans and his franchise quarterback.

My second Senior Drill Instructor (the first was canned when the Series SgtMaj caught us playing “Bats”, i.e. hanging by our toes from the top rung of our racks [bunks]) at Parris Island, GySgt Truell, once told us that IF we HAD to run somewhere, if our lives or someone else’s life depended on it, then we should never stop running. We might have to slow to a mamasan shuffle, but we should never stop running.

Except for two reasons:
1) Your heart stops beating.
2) Someone blows your legs off.

Gunny Truell would approve of RGIII.

And yes, the coach is paid to make the tough decision to pull an injured player out of the game.

Well, if RGIII can’t return to football, he has a degree and work on a masters, plus he’s brain smart.

Almost a year ago, during the NFC title game, Jay Cutler was roundly criticized for not sacrificing his body, and sitting out part of the game with a sprained knee.

I’m not going to criticize RGIII for giving all he’s got.

Shanahan maybe...but not RGIII. It can’t be ‘wimpy’ to taked yourself out, and also be ‘liar’ to stay in.

Seahawks: Points per game allowed all season: 15
Points given up to Washington in the first quarter: 14

So, yeah. That is all that Washington was going to get for the game. No matter who was at quarterback.

Next question?

The left, and especially leftist reporters sure hate Griffin. I wonder why that is?
