“Wish there was a way they both could lose.”

Yeah, a lot of people felt that way and it probably stems from the arbitrary Bowl Championship Series.
Way past time to pitch the `B(C)S’ for playoffs, like every other college and professional sport. The SEC loves it, having been, uh, selected 9 times over the last 15 years to play, with two SEC teams last year.
And look for numerous SEC teams to get a BCS `reach-around’ in the initial standings next August.

The Ducks are an outstanding one loss team and have a good claim to the title, along with Texas A&M and a number of other teams. And Ohio State is the only standing `no loss’ team.

No reflection on Alabama. They are a complete team and were awesome last night. But they were playing Notre Dame, which wouldn’t have survived a first round playoff in a tournament of eight good teams. What a lousy game and not surprisingly, no one’s surprised.
As far as that goes, why not a playoff tournament with the champions of every conference? Trim conference schedules by shedding the initial games against `sacrificial lambs’ and start it the beginning of December.

Then we would have a real championship game and wouldn’t be subjected to BCS championship nonsense decided by football gurus, computers, `style points’ and the subjectivity of MSM talking sports heads.

And whoa Nelly—put that screwball Musberger out to pasture, and then we’ll have some kinda college football with no reasons for griping.
Rant over.

Wardaddy, your colorful posts are legend, and much appreciated.

WKB, you wax as eloquent as anyone I’ve seen.

I wish you, both, a very Happy and Blessed 2013!

I basically only follow a few SEC teams...Bama and LSU mostly or my alma mater Ole Miss if they have an interesting QB and on the pro side Saints, Packers, Giants..obvious reason, and the Cowboys football wise

The behavior of the players has turned me off since the 60s and 70s of my youth when black players had a lot more dignity and were worthy of hero worship...like Too Tall or Drew or Mean Joe etc..some white players have slid a bit but nothing in comparison

anyhow...I know Ohio State is on serious probation and not considered but is it your opinion they have the best team

I have not examined their schedule.

Thanks

I was turned off when Billy 'White shoes' Johnson was allowed to do his antics in the end zone, way back when for the Houston, Oilers.

I've just now begun to rekindle (a little) interest in college football. Still no (low class) professional sports though.

One of my disappointments of the 70s was the Oakland Raiders. I loved Kenny Stabler, looked at him as Hugh Hefner in shoulder pads. But such greats as Lyle Alzado and John Matuszak’s careers and lives ruined for steroids and little fun was such a waste,.

Kenny Stabler, who drove a black ‘vet with a white racing stripe down the middle of the car. I believe it was called “The Skunk.” I met him at the hangout in Gulf Shores. He was way too old for me at the time, though, but he was a babe and a half, and one of the best Bear Bryant ever had.

So was Scott Hunter, who actually did try to pick me up in P’City at the hang out there. I was old enough, but he was intimidating so I turned him down...nicely, though.

Apparently, I had a fun youth. ;o)

Lyle Alzado and John Matuszak...both gone way too young, and both a joy to watch on the field.

The Tooz was in “The Goonies.” I don’t know why, but I’ve always liked that movie.
