Some small city with high speed internet and a large enough lot to have a large "Kitchen garden".....but not living next door to a pit-bull puppy mill or anything like that....

Pioche and the surrounding areas. Lots of open spaces, cheap property, right in the middle of great camping, fishing, and hunting....about 200 miles NNE of Vegas.

Walker Lake near Hawthorne is a nice area, depending on what you're looking for.

Yearington is a small town that might be worth looking into, again, depending on what you're looking for.

Where will I retire? Australia.

You do know that the citizens of Australia have been disarmed, and that they don't have a 2nd Amendment, right?

Thats not entirely true....

With my skills I would design a better weapon than the AR, something like the Metalstorm.

Of which is built in Brisbane.

You can own guns in Oz, you can make guns in Oz, the government is at peace, no gun grabber mobs there, no nosey neighbors looking for a reward.

I remember driving thru Hawthorne a few years ago....really nice area. If our Freeper requesting info is retired military...there is Hawthorne Army Depot nearby...not a large post but should have commissary and exchange

Sounds to me like you're saying that you can get away with breaking Australia's gun ban laws if you're careful.

We rented an RV about 6-7 years ago and ended up spending a couple of days at a campsite next to Walker Lake (caught a nice Lahontan Trout too), all night long we heard explosions coming from the Army depot, I mean big ones!

I don't know if they were just depleting aged munitions or what but it was surly an experience.

Re: “I’ll second Minden/Gardnerville.”

I checked that area out a dozen years ago, but in short order so many Kalifornicans (with their zoning crapola) had moved there that it lost its low-cost and unrestricted rural attraction. Just another over-priced suburb of CA now!

“I cannot think of one good reason to ever visit Nevada”

The best one you need to know is that its the fastest way to get OUT of Kalifornica, exc for extreme N and NE areas of the state which aren’t really CA at all! Those folks want to secede and form the “State of Jefferson”!

I may be mistaken, but I think almost all weapons are now banned in AU. If you grow tomatoes for your family, they might allow you to own a single-shot .22 to kill rabbits so you wouldn’t starve........

I don't think you're mistaken, but someone will probably chime in here with the precise facts of the Aussie gun ban.

Personally, I couldn't even begin to contemplate relocating to a country that forbids its citizens from exercising one of nature's most basic human rights.

Thanks - good to know. We have been looking for a new community since moving to the PNW and watching it become invested with the political cancer of retiring school system lifers from California. To our dismay, many of the places I have admired for sometime are going that way. Kalispell, MT and Jackson Hole to name a couple.
