Dave Barry’s Year in Review
Miami Herald ^ | 12/29/12 | Dave Barry

Posted on 12/30/2012 10:23:05 AM PST by P.O.E.

It was a cruel, cruel year — a year that kept raising our hopes, only to squash them flatter than a dead possum on the interstate.

Example: This year the “reality” show Jersey Shore, which for six hideous seasons has been a compelling argument in favor of a major earth-asteroid collision, finally got canceled, and we dared to wonder if maybe, just maybe, we, as a society, were becoming slightly less stupid.

But then, WHAP, we were slapped in our national face by the cold hard frozen mackerel of reality in the form of the hugely popular new “reality” show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which, in terms of intellectual content, makes Jersey Shore look like Hamlet.

Dave Barry may be a libtard, but he’s a very funny libtard. I always like his Year in Review pieces.

Read a book about a suitcase nuke, goats on the interstate, etc. and laughed cover to cover.

Big Trouble. I loved it!

His Book of Bad Songs is also gut-busting funny.

Dave Barry is far from Libtard. I have read him for years, he is somewhat to the right of Rudy McRomney.

He’s also buds/bandmates with Stephen King, who is an uber-libtard.

Dave Barry may be a libtard, but he’s a very funny libtard.

That's what you get when a man marries outside his religion and moves to Florida.

Dave Barry may be a libtard...

Is he a lefty or a libertarian? I've often thought he might be the latter. His indictment of Mayor Bloomberg in this piece, for example, seems to point to that.

I answered my own question, posted above. In a 1994 interview, he copped to being a libertarian.

Yeah, he’s pretty much an equal opportunity joker for both sides of the aisle.

My favorite article ever is the one he did about the potato gun. I’m still laughing!

I think he's more libertarian. He's definitely a limited government guy.

I miss D.B.’s column, but go to his blogsite by way of Drudge. Weird news clips w/comments are hilarious (”Your Florida Driver’s License is in the Mail”).

His colonoscopy vid on youtube greatly helped me get through my own.

Still have clippings of: SCOTUS justice makes Dave aware of Beano, the purpose of women’s breasts is to make men stupid (works for me), and why airline food is so awful (for the historically minded).

His year in review is great & only mildly anti-Republican.

...and goes to work for The Miami Herald. I cannot imagine anyone working for that paper who is not far left in ideology.

Yes, that may be, but through the years of reading his books and columns, I’ve picked up on a liberal vibe from his words. It may be that he’s more of a “social” liberal, but it’s there. Libertarians are not known for social conservatism, necessarily.
