Big Business Sells Out Small Business

CEOs say yes to higher individual taxes in return for Obama's promise of corporate tax reform.

By KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL

Were the Hollywood academy to hand out Oscars for roles in this fiscal cliff drama, the winner of the Best Charlatan award would not be in much doubt. Corporate America, take your bow.

Say this for the Republicans and Democrats: Both sides are fighting over principles. Nothing so generous can be said for the bulk of America's corporate chieftains, whose agenda lately has been to stick it to everyone else.

As the negotiations have rolled on, a growing collection of CEOs and big-business lobbies have fallen in line with President Obama's cry to raise income taxes on those making more than $250,000. To listen to these CEOs, this is the ultimate self-sacrifice. "I would pay more in taxes" in a budget deal, explained the noble Honeywell CEO Dave Cote, but it would be worth it to "put the economy on a sounder footing."

Ah yes, the hypocrisy rears it's ugly head again! Just ask your favorite progressive one question: Why do you think the local dry cleaning entrepreneur with three locations should pay a higher tax than GE, IBM or Berkshire Hathaway?

Let them try to spin that one . . .

Then tell them this is Obama's plan.

Conservatives and libertarians supported corporations for years on free market principles and low taxes. What did we get in return? They stabbed us in the back, forced us to train our Indian and Chinese replacements, and contributed heavily to our disparagement in the popular culture. Nowadays, since the rest of the world is kicking most of their asses in the marketplace, they only seem interested in their place at the Washington pig trough.

Short-sighted and ignorant C-level “executives”. Hey nimrods, what’s easier for a pencil-necked communist tyrant’s central government to control - A few large corporations or tens of thousands of small ones. Your assisting your own demise, you overpaid $hit for brains enablers.

This is a surprise? Who wrote the rules for FDR’s. National Recovery Admin? Big business. My grandfather owned 5 grocery stores in NYC in the Depression.he joined the NRA like a good patriot and learned its rules were written by the A&P and Safeway. He could make no profit and leaving the group would require removal of the NRA’ blue eagle window decal, marking him as unpatriotic. By 1939 he’d lost four of his stores, even with SCOTUS declaring the NRA unconstitutional.

What people learn from history is that people don’t learn from history.
Many call this ‘socialism’ as in socializing the economy, but the correct term, imo, is ‘Corporatism’.
Big Business is more able to pass along increased costs (higher taxes) and lower profit margins because of their ability to leverage assets. Some Republicans favor competition on a level playing field, thus the call for fewer regulations. But if you look around there’s little difference between the Republican Elites and Democrat Elites just the degree and speed of the end game.

Big Business is only one step lesser than Big Government. They are in cahoots as evidenced by all of the Bailouts and tax policies that favor them.

Whenever we speak of government inefficiencies we always state it needs to be run more like a small business. Never have I heard someone say that government needs to be run like a Big Business.

Big Business less so, like Big Governement suffer from “Too Big to Succeed” many times. This is why they favor subsidies and special tax benefits.
