Tennis star Novak buys up world's supply of donkey cheese at £400 a pound for new restaurant chain

Some of us might find the idea of donkey milk cheese hard to stomach at any price.

However, aficionados of the rare delicacy are apparently prepared to pay up to £400 a pound for it.

And from next year, even that will not be enough to secure a supply, after tennis star Novak Djokovic bought up the entire 2013 output of the Serbian farm which produces it.

The cheese, known as pule, will be one of the key attractions at a chain of restaurants the Wimbledon champion and world number one is opening in his Serbian homeland.

By agreeing to buy the entire supply, he hopes to ensure there will be enough to go round – although it is not clear how much he will charge for a portion.

ROTFLOL I bet the donkey or people that make it don’t receive a fraction of this.

donkey cheese might be the tastiest of all cheeses and I've just missed it.

I've heard that distinction goes to Venezuelan beaver cheese.

(This thread was lacking in sufficient Python cheese shop references.)

Do you think I'm a fool
Eating cheese from a mule?
Even though it's called "pule"
It won't make me drool.....
Please just pass the gruel
And to all...."Happy Yule"!

£400 a pound.

That converts to $643.08 a pound at today’s conversion rate. Gonna be high priced cheese no matter where it’s served.

I don’t know why everybody’s making fun of this tennis star who bought out all the donkey cheese. It sounds like she is cornering the market on donkey cheese and must have a great business model for her new chain of restaurants. I wish her well but should I decide to dine in one of her restaurants, I think I will pass on the donkey cheese and maybe get some scallops wrapped in bacon or something when it comes time for appetizers.
