A Saudi man who wanted to marry again had hesitated many times before throwing the bombshell at his wife, a school teacher. Instead of hurling the bomb back at him, the wife welcomed the idea on one condition—she has to pick the new wife.
The unnamed husband has hardly overcome that pleasant shock when his wife gave him another shock—she has selected one of her school girls as his second wife.
The husband quickly agreed and before he started to thank his wife, she had a third nice bombshell in store for him—she offered to pay all his wedding expenses.
“The man married the school girl, who now shares her former teacher one husband,” Sabq daily said in a report from the southern province of Jazan.
“The first wife insisted on bearing all wedding expenses as a gift for her husband in response to all women who are against polygamy.”
Islam allows men to have four wives at a time but women can have one husband at the same time. Polygamy became widespread in the Arabian Peninsula following the discovery of oil which turned the desert region into one of the richest areas.
Maybe she is thinking: “Finally, I can get someone else to wash his robes for a change!”
It was normal, but probably not widespread, since you have to be pretty affluent to support multiple wives. Remember, the wives aren’t getting jobs and contributing to the household income, they are just another adult dependent.
“She’s old enough to marry in their culture.”
I believe the rule over there is “Old enough for Muhammad, old enough for me”.
Well, about all I can tell from that is that current wife likes to rock the old school Adidas kicks. Are there Muslim hipsters? Maybe that is the cultural poison that will destroy them :D

Hardly - those are Saudi women, genitally mutilated and with all the appeal such females have always had.
actually, I’ve heard of similar cases. If you want a second wife, often you don’t want quarrels so you ask your wife for help.
So why marry when you are not in love? I don’t know the Saudi culture, but in Africa, traditionally a man cannot have intercourse with his wife when she is pregnant or breast feeding and sex for women stopped at menopause... often a man would marry another wife, often her sister or relative so the wives wouldn’t quarrel.
In poor families, often a man would marry sisters or relatives so the wives could help each other in the work. And we had one man who married a wife every time he opened a store. Our African nurses explained why: You could have an easy job running the store (instead of working in the fields), you got plenty to eat, and a new dress every year.
Polygamy was one way to cope in the days when poverty meant starvation for single unmarried women.
It didn’t always work: Look at Jacob’s problems. And then there is the African proverb: Poor man, five wives, all pregnant...might as well be single.
Also, when men died in war, or went away in wars, leaving a lot of unmarriageable ladies, it also gave the unmarried girls a chance to marry.
The problem with polygamy is twofold: First, despite everything, women do get jealous.
Second: When there are almost equal numbers of men and women, often there is a woman shortage for wives for poorer men.
So like many customs that made sense in the past, they don’t have a justification in the modern world.

I thought he threw an actual bombshell at his wife. Stranger things have happened.
Wives cost money.
Married to my first wife for 35 years, single for a year, re married a year and a half ago. My second wife loves to hunt and fish and will have a drink with me. The first would have none of the above. I’m one happy guy!
And she’s about 10 years younger and pretty as a picture.
First wife paying for all expenses... Sounds like hubby is great in bed ;D!
