They are not only the fastest growing population in the country, but Latinos are also spending 3 times more at the super market than everyone else.
With more than $1 trillion in purchasing power, Latino consumers like Arlette Mendoza are gaining the attention of big name brands.
I personally like it," said the mother of two. "I think it's good that everyone else is discovering just how good our food is."
Cereal companies, including General Mills are using flavors like Dulce de Leche with the hope of appealing to the growing Latino consumer.
Richie Matthews is President of DIÁLOGO, a national public relations agency that services brands targeting the Hispanic market.
He says with Latinos making up a third of San Diego's population, several companies are using the area as a test market. The brands are positioning themselves so that they not only incorporate more market share but so they're relevant and I think that's the name of the game for any consumer brand, said Matthews.
He also says the Latino market is craving nostalgic cultural flavors like lime, chili, and Latin infused coffee just to name a few.
So now when you go to the grocery store you will see more Latino flavors spread out beyond the ethnic food aisle to the mainstream.
These looters are using the money extorted from the producers though the confiscatory taxation of the Obama regime. Thrifty, hard-working Conservatives are getting the shaft yet again by these minority groups gaming the system. It's well past time for the Tea Party Rebellion to rise up and take America back.
What a ridiculous thing to say. Mexicans work their asses of, at least for the most part. Quit your race baiting.
I think since most do not abort their children, they have larger families than many today, so it would make sense they’re spending more than average.
I don’t think they have a lower abortion rate than other groups.
This is a huge community being sucked into the morass of a mammoth welfare state. Consider a typical Hispanic household with children.
It is headed by an unmarried women who receives food stamps and public housing or rent supplements to feed and house her children.
Her kids are educated free from Head Start to K-12 and fed by school breakfast and lunch programs. Should they graduate high school, Pell Grants and student loans are there for college.
For cash, mom gets welfare checks. If she takes a job, she will receive an earned income tax credit to supplement her income. If she loses her job, she can get 99 weeks of unemployment checks.
For health care, there is Medicaid and Obamacare. And like 45 percent of all Hispanic households, she has no federal income tax liability.
It's not race baiting, it's the facts.
The Hispanic out-of-wedlock birth rate is 53 percent, about twice that of whites. There much more in the Free Republic thread, Why Hispanics Dont Vote for Republicans including this fact:
The idea of the social issues Hispanic voter is also a mirage. A majority of Hispanics now support gay marriage [sic], a Pew Research Center poll from last month found.
I'll add that I personally object to the term "gay marriage" since sodomites are anything but gay, in the true sense of the word. They are miserable, frustrated creatures pushing their perversion. And the support of this abomination by the majority of Hispanics explodes the myth that they are attuned to the principle of Conservatism.
Buy the way, please make a point to read post #8 in the thread I referenced.
If I could avoid income, withholding and FICA taxes I too would have more money to spend.
CDC’s out of wedlock birth rate for Hispanics is 80.6 out of 1,000 (8%). And 45% of all Americans don’t have tax liability because they don’t have high enough incomes. Mexicans do not come to the US, whether legally or not, to collect welfare. They come here for jobs and a better life for their tight-knit families. Keep driving that wedge between whites and Hispanics and we’ll never see any of that vote back.
That's certainly inspirational but in Nevada, Obama won the Hispanic vote 70% to 25% in 2012. That's tantamount to casting a ballot for handouts from the producers.
One of my best friends, Gil (he eschews his birthname of Gilberto), is of Mexican ancestry. He's the role model for an American who happens to be of Hispanic origin. He's a Christian who proudly flies the American flag at his home not far from where I live. He never utters a word in Spanish and, although he doesn't curse, he has some choice words for Mexican food, which he detests. He won't even take his family to Taco Bell! :-)
And need I add that Gil and I have attended Tea Party events here in Texas together. He's all American through and through and is an example of a non-hyphenated Patriot. He son just wrapped up his military service and will join the family carpet installation business. He's a great guy with a wonderful wife and an outstanding son. Unfortunately, he's among the minority of Hispanics who see the danger in an Obama regime.
My bad. Birth rate is 80.6/1000, but your number of 53% of Hispanic births to unwed mothers is correct.
Here's a chart using the 2010 CDC numbers posted by the Heritage Foundation:
Here's another chart of interest revealing the dependency of Mexicans (both legal and illegal) on productive Americans:

Note that my friend Gil, whom I referenced elsewhere in this thread is native born. His parents were legal immigrants from Mexico, coming here in the 1940's. Neither he nor his parents (both now deceased) took any form of welfare.
There is something rather strange here. How can the Latinos have such a massive purchasing power when the bulk of them are impoverished illegal immigrants? Is this so called purchasing power coming from Uncle Sam? Granted their purchasing power is growing but not to the tune of the astronomical figure cited.
See my post 12.

There appears to be a lot missing [ like what is the source of their income ] from this report.
It must be like losing a war and being adsorbed by the conquerors as they erase your nation, and replace it with theirs.
my brother has owned a “Latin” supermarket in San Jose, Ca for the last 25 years... he once told me that his shoppers are willing to spend their money—most of their money—on food... groceries... many of them don’t typically go on vacation or even go out to eat so much... they buy what we might consider specialty foods... in addition, they are willing to pay more at Latin supermarkets because the set-up is a lot like the markets in their home countries... not everyone who shops in these markets are on food stamps...
Thanks much for that. I hope it's clear that my intent isn't race bating (technically Hispanics are an ethnicity as opposed to a race) nor to drive a wedge. I think that coming to terms with a problem requires an understanding of the obstacles and a brutal facing of the hard reality of what Conservatives face.
My friend, Gil, actually takes a hard line on the matter. He's for massive deportation and speaks highly of President Eisenhower's "Operation Wetback" program of the 1950's. That comes from his parents immigrating to America the right way back in the 1940's and then assimilating to our values and cultures. He resents those who have short-circuited the legal process.
And to think that I purport to speak English! I really do know better...I think. :-)
Latinos are spending faster because they originated from high-inflation economy states. If you aren’t fast to change your money for goods you are a big loser in Latin America, Africa, some parts of Eastern Europe and Asia. A new car today is a fridge today and a pack of skittles tomorrow. It is cultural habit and they can’t get rid of it in a couple generations.
The night we took our puppy to the e-vet hospital in Winchester VA, an Hispanic family brought in a Pit who’d been hit by a car.
While we had to max out our cards, empty our wallets and *still* beg for money to cover her expenses, they simply paid cash for a fixed up dog who had two surgeries, multiple pins in his hind legs and numerous stitches.
It had to have cost them several thousand dollars, based on the $1300 we laid out just for an exam, worm check, CBC, IV drips and overnight stay [at 90 per 6 hour increments] and some antibiotics and prescription food.
They didn’t look like doctors or lawyers.
I also see them at local car auctions in droves, laying out wads of cash for used vehicles.
WTH are they getting all this money?
Which is why nothing is done about immigration. The powers that be prefer pliable customers, not responsible ones.
Welfare is not a savings plan it is meant to be spent.
The task of the conservative is to find a leader or leaders who can convince the white haters, looters and just plain shiftless that Madison is preferable to Marx
Sharpest post on here so far.
“WTH are they getting all this money?”
Some mexicans rent up the street. Three VERY nice SUV’s and 3 junkers. (3? families crammed in there I think).
See the county social services over there once in awhile. Asked a neighbor about it if there was trouble. No - they bring stuff, do some medical checks on the kids, etc. The kids also get a school bus right in front of their door - even though we are too close to the school for kids to use the bus.
During the summer their front lawn is covered with yard sale stuff every weekend. I mentioned to the same neighbor once “Where the H*&^ does all that stuff fit in their house!?” The neighbor replied “Oh - no. They scrounge all of the Goodwill drop boxes for the over-flow and steal it. They figure the stuff is dropped off for people that need help. They need help - so they grab it and sell it.”
The cops have been over there once-in-awhile, along with social services - so I figure me complaining about them probably being illegals is of no use.
I’m shocked to learn that Latino’s are now a third of the population of my hometown.
I can’t afford to live there anymore.
I wonder how they can?
when you’re working off the books, it’s amazing how much extra spending money you have...
Peachy.
Guess I’ll start stealing stuff from the drop boxes to pay off the vet bill.
Geeze.
An entire one-third of US welfare recipients reside in CA.

In doesn’t necessary mean they aren’t working. More likely cheating a system to accumulate more resources for a reasons I’ve written earlier.
I know a lot of Mexicans are hardworking, but most of the Mexicans I saw the last time my wife and I were in Las Vegas were the hundreds of them trying to slap porn in my hand as my wife and I walked down the strip. Even some of the older women were doing it.
Close to my home is a small town of Arcadia, Wisconsin. There are some chicken processing plants in the area, and a lot of Mexicans working in those plants. They now have specialty stores catering to the Mexican workers in Arcadia. If I lived around Arcadia, I might do the same.
> If I could avoid income, withholding and FICA taxes I too would have more money to spend.
True. Most that I know work in the construction trade or yard work and are paid cash. They don’t pay taxes as far as I know. And I know quite a bit of them. They are hard working people I will give them that but I don’t think many, if any of them pay taxes, and just about every Hispanic female I see in line that buys groceries uses an EBT card. It’s just the culture we live in at the moment. If they would pay in taxes it would probably makeup the shortfall the gov’t claims it needs (though we know it would only make them spend more; they’re never satisfied)
That sounds just like the Whitehut’s propoganda message about the life of “Julia”.
If I could avoid income, withholding and FICA taxes I too would have more money to spend.
Don’t forget that when they file with the IRS that many receive “refunds” much larger than their tax contributions.
I was at Autozone the other day and there were 5 Hispanic “shoppers”. One was shoplifting the very moment my attention was drawn to the one at the counter when the clerk said, “How are you today, wow, you are here several times every day”, and guy asked the clerk a question. The guy shoplifting disappeared from my view quickly but then I realized that there were 5 of them together as they all jumped into the old car out front. I told the clerk and he said I was mistaken. Oh well, I like O Rielly’s better anyway.
They typically have larger families so this is not surprising.
Of course they’re spending more. But it’s not their money. It’s our money, laundered through Washington. I’d spend more, too, if Uncle Sugar were giving it to me. Other People’s Money.
Nearly 60% of Mexican immigrants—legal and illegal—are on some form of welfare. That’s more than double the total non-Hispanic American rate.
I see you’ve got better, and more astonishing, numbers than I do.
These should be central to the amnesty debate—only in part because they demonstrate that having the GOP give in with another massive amnesty will do absolutely nothing to increase the small percentage of votes they win from the demographic.
I agree. It is a crock that they are pro-life.
Exit poll results found that about two-thirds of Hispanics (66%) said that abortion should be legal while 28% disagreed. Among all voters, a somewhat smaller majority (59%) would allow legal abortions while 37% were opposed.

The free market goes where the dollars are and if the dollars are in non-English speakers then that's where the food, entertainment and culture goes. So too will the choices the rest of us have to eat. This won't simply mean additional choices but replacement products as demand from this group outweighs demand from other purchasers. There isn't infinite shelf space or manufacturing capacity to accommodate marginal sellers.
I've been learning to accept that I exist on the cultural margins when it comes to food, entertainment and even political thinking.
Test marketing in San Diego is nothing new. It's one of the highlights of living there. Of course it's on its way to becoming indistinguishable from L.A. and in time it won't be recognizable in character. Given the results of this latest election that time may be here.
General Mills discovered you many years ago. I was at a local grocery store one day. in the corner at the entrance were some well known cereal GE brands in Spanish on the box priced much lower than the ones in English. They were the same cereals. So it’s not like one day they magically discovered you.
Well, they swarm — and I mean SWARM the malls and stores here in N. Virginia. See them all the time with multiple shopping bags hanging off the strollers — a lot of them are dressed to the hilt and driving brand new pick ups, SUV’s, etc. Some not, but many are.
I’ve also seen our welfare offices in Arlington and other places packed to standing room only with hispanics and illegals of all races and ethnicities.
We are being royally ripped off. Guess it just can’t last forever once all the dough actually runs out.
I will say that I do see SOME beginning to hold down higher end jobs — in banks, in dr and dentist’s offices, cell phone stores, etc. Most are pleasant and have good customer service skills — at least the younger kids. I’m sure they are becoming more educated. Problem is, for every one of those, they bring along 20 uneducated family member peasants with multiple chronic health problems which we taxpayers end up being on the hook for. I don’t care how they great are ... what good is it if it’s going to crash our economy?
Our country is being stolen from us. And we are just sitting here like bumps on logs, just allowing it.
While we watch our football games ...go to our concernts, and our movies, and watch our favorite shows on TV. Duh.
Sad. Can Mama baby or Daddy Baby thinking be far away? That is going backwards if this is true.
Day labor, cash off the books. Contractors are glad to do it too, saves them money.
They have 4-5 kids. Thats why. Plus the govt. is giving then money to spend.
