Thanks for posting. Every bit of new information helps.

The problem here is not the green tea or the poor mice. It is the bagel. Anyone who is having problems with blood sugar levels needs to move away from refined carbohydrates and any sweeteners and move to complex carbohydrates and proteins.

High blood sugar can be a silent killer but more importantly it reduces the quality of life in very subtle and not so subtle ways.

High blood sugar reduces energy levels, makes you thirsty and can cloud thinking and clarity of thought. Yes, the bagel may be hard to leave behind but part of life is setting priorities.

Breakfast can be smoked salmon, barley, lean beef patties from a good butcher, a quiche, chicken gumbo or scrambled eggs.

Our current highly refined carbohydrate diet is a recent post WW2 development. I remember the fairy tale of the woodcutter having a piece of cheese and some milk for breakfast. I wondered how he got by on that.

It takes a shift in gears of how you think about breakfast. If you find breakfast drains you and you are tired later then consider a change. Find out what works for you. Just shift from the simple highly refined carbohydrates to the complex carbohydrates and proteins. It will reflect in your blood sugar level.

I notice you recommend barley.

All carbohydrates, not just “refined” carbohydrates, are bad for you. Another problem is ALL GRAINS. All grains contain lectins which cause Leaky Bowel Syndrome, which causes chronic inflammation throughout the body—leading to heart disease, diabetes, and many other diseastes.

Other foods that no one should eat are: peanuts and all other legumes, and cashews.

I used to have blood sugar highs and lows....and then two years ago, I began to slip in a 12-ounce glass of green ice tea each work-day. Since then, I’ve kinda noticed that I don’t really have these sugar-swings. Now, I must admit, I haven’t changed much of my diet. So I’m thinking....after reading this article, that the sugar-swings might have been tied up with the green tea thing.
