I liked Apollo 18 for the stock NASA footage and all the kit they managed to put together. The premise was interesting, but flawed. A thriller where one of the astronauts loses it (I think a moon mission all on its own could do that to a person), or nearly does, could have been cool.

Marooned was interesting, but its been decades since I last saw it.

There was another movie about an American who goes to the moon, finds the Soviets beat them, but died in the attempt, and then finds a rescue craft that had already landed ahead of them. I can never remember the name of that one, even though I’m sure I’ve caught parts of it twice.

But no one can answer the big questions, secret agent man.

Scott did to his audience essentially what man’s creator did to him.

Supply your own answers.

Some will disagree with me on that, but that is the case when it comes to pure facts.

Personaly I think the movie is brilliant on a number of levels, but it is a cerebal affair, no doubt.

As far as prequel sequels go, whatever the case turns out to be, I’m eager, I am a fan of his work.

but cmon, the gal wouldn’t have been so ambulatory after that.

and the other sad thing is that none of the characters develop to get you to relate to them as people. unlike Scott’s first movie Alien. they are all there to spout crap, be a suit, or be fodder. i think i liked the captain best, he was the most relatable as a real person.

i just expected more from Scott because he did really well with Alien, and he had always wanted to do the backstory to Alien. thought he would have done as good if not better than Alien, and i don’t think he did. i still like his work, just a let-down and i thought he’d have done better.

Some great picks here....I will add “The Fly” - the original with Vincent Price. “Help me.....”

I was about 8 years old when I saw "The Fly". It was a double feature at the Bay Theatre in Baytown, Texas. Also playing was "The Alligator People". Both of those movies scared the crap out of me. I had stepped on a 'rusty nail' and was afraid to tell my parents for fear I would get a shot. At the move, scared spitless and watching the movie through my hands over my face, I told my older brother I had stepped on the rusty nail. He told me that stepping on a rusty nail would turn me into one of the Alligator people. I was terrified. I began to demand he take me home,...getting loud in the theater. We still laugh about it to this day....53 years later.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

One of my very favorite sf movies. I think I like the 50s version better than the Donald Sutherland version.

I’ve gotta go with Blade Runner too. Best by far. Not only best science fiction but probably in my top five best movies ever. “All those memories will be lost...in time...like tears in rain. Time to die.”

Dune the movie? Or Dune the mini series from SCI FI channel? Both SCI FI Mini-series of Dune and Children of Dune blow that 1984 crap right out of the water!

Original Day the Earth Stood Still.
Had the first really good robot.

Forbidden Planet.
Good robot, Had interesting weapons and force fields. Good plot of a super machine that eventually kills the population soon after activation via creatures of the ID.

2001.
First really detailed, realistic space movie followed by 2010 to fill in the questions.

Alien.
The first truly believable scary monster in a situation that keeps getting worse.

All of Startrek and Stargate.
SciFi for the dreamer of tomorrow.

Independence Day.
It makes you feel good.
