Two Way Radio Reviews and Buying Guide:
Consumer Search.com ^ | 11/19/12

You might remember growing up with walkie talkies, well today they are called two-way radios. I remember going to Radio Shack to look at their selection of walkie talkies as a kid and always dreaming of having a high powered military set that had ranges of over a mile. Today almost all two-way radios have ranges from 1 to 2 miles and they are much smaller than the ones we had a decade or so ago. Two-way radios are very useful - they are great for long road trips when taking separate cars, on the ski slopes, at amusement parks, when hunting or camping, on backcountry hiking trips, or even in large shopping malls. Businesses can use two-way radios instead of cell phones in many situations as well. There are no per minute charges with 2-way radios which is one benefit over traditional cell phone use. Plus, if you are in the woods where cell phone don't always work, a two-way radio may just save your life. What should you look for in a two-way radio from the store? We get into two-way radio features in our buying guide down below.

P.S. Have you ever turned on a FRS/GMRS radio lately? The channel are usually jammed with traffic anywhere near a population, even small towns. Not get heard by others? Get real. Millions of people own those radios. Millions, and they all think they’ll get to use them in secrecy somehow, just like you.

Ah, yes. More insults. What is it they say about people who can't win on facts?

You have worked yourself up into such a frenzy you can hear no one. You are attacking and insulting me and others in this thread.

Funny thing is, I don't care about the license registration issue. Never have. I just pointed out that it was there in case someone did.

But you seem to be compelled to insult and attack any who dare to even bring up something you don't agree with. And the only reason this has gone on in this long in this thread is insults are the only way some people can express a difference of opinion.

As for grandkids learning the code - or any kid - since all have the ubiquitous cell phone with all the latest doo-dads and apps, there is an app(s)for Hams and for code. Perhaps you may approach them this way to get them to learn code. At least this may get one of their thumbs into doing code.

I have a POTs cell phone (plain ol telephone service) so can only tell you what one of my friends says he has on his 4G cell.

"What is it they say about people who can't win on facts? " Do you know what they call people that cannot read facts but focus on non-existent thoughts: Idiots. Clinical definition. Idiot. Your reading comprehension is that of a 3rd grader but you are determined that I agree with you, unfortunately, that would make us both wrong. You will never be my idol no matter how much you throw that temper tantrum.

Yep. I am having the temper tantrum here. You, on the other hand, remain calm, mature and measured in your responses.

If you would have responded with "I don't believe that stuff" instead of "you're stupid for believing that stuff" that would have ended it. But you seem to be incapible of communicating without insulting.

Once again, I do not care about the license issue, but do take issue for being insulted for pointing out the search feature on the website.

Besides, with the crappy sunspot cycle, it's not very fun this peak.

The heck you say! Worked Japan on 10 Meters two weeks ago, and UAE and Qatar this past weekend on 20 Meters.

Granted, it's not like the hey-days in 1999 but it's not completely dead. Sometimes all it takes is watching the gray line and calling CQ for a bit. You'd be surprised how many folks are listening to see if there's a band opening. Once they hear someone the band pops and folks come crawling out of the woodwork.

I don't do a lot of HF right now, but I do call CQ on 6 meters around the windows. No joy yet.

I'll have to fire up the HF rig and listen around a bit.
