Daniel Day-Lewis' natural, non-movie accent is a Northern Irish accent. He was not only raised in Northern Ireland but he actually holds an Irish passport as well as a UK passport - a citizenship he went out of his way to obtain.

His father C. Day-Lewis was the Poet Laureate not of "England" but of the United Kingdom, of which Northern Ireland is a part. C. Day-Lewis came from an old Protestant Ascendancy family in Ireland.
