I’d say that preppers biggest mistake is in planning to live apart from the community instead of rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to maintain the community.

Where I am at in a rural area, water will never be a problem.

Not sure what they mean by beans and rice mentality but that is two of the things I have just begun to stockpile, along with sugar, salt, spam and a lot of spices.

I like guns and ammo, I have more ammo than I will ever need no matter what. I have no intention of shooting anyone who is not an immediate threat to my life. I do realize that hunting will be a very ineffective way to provide food not very long after a catastrophe.

Actually I don’t foresee any time when food and necessities are completely unobtainable. Just that they may be very expensive and I may not have much of an income.

I just canned 14 more pints of rainbow trout last Saturday. That puts me up to about 30.

7) The first time they (try to) use their survival gear is when they need it to survive.

I practice regularly with (ie. use) my gear & rotate supplies routinely. Got a fancy fire starter flint and steel? Have you ever tried to use it? Ever fished with that gear? Ever sharpened a knife with the stone? Ever cooked in that pan? Set up that tent in the dark, in a wind? Ever actually dug with that folding shovel? Ever prepared a meal with that big honking ridiculous Rambo survival knife? (ha, now go get a normal sized one before you hurt yourself!) Ever prepared kindling with that hatchet? Do you now have work gloves in your survival kit - 'cause you're going to be using your hands a lot more and getting blisters... etc. etc.

I think the biggest mistake a prepper can make is letting anybody know that they are preppers.

There is a guy down in Alabama, wish I could remember where, but he is totally off the grid. Man, he is so fascinating!

8. Voting RINO (I've made this mistake.)
9. Ignoring your relationship with God. (Father, grant me
strength.)

I'll be addressing that in my Poverty Cooking series chapter 2 that will be posted on the Friday Prepper thread. I was working on that today. ;)

7. Openly talking about prepping.

8. Leaving a huge paper trail in the form of credit card transactions and the like. If you don't think that big sis is tracking folks that buy MREs by the gross, you are not paranoid enough to be a prepper.

preppers biggest mistake is in planning to live apart from the community instead of rolling up their sleeves and pitching in to maintain the community.

What makes you think that preppers will do that? A television show? Or real-world experience with preppers?

Personally, I've cooked for neighbors when power was out after storms in the neighborhood because I had the equipment and skills, and quite a few of the neighbors are geriatics.

Prepping is about maintaining communities. God calls on us to be of service to others. I can't do that without being prepared, myself.

In re: #6... some folks are a threat now. They have to be dealt with if there is an emergency or not. ;)

6. Not Understanding that People will become a Threat During a SHTF Crisis

Im sure some liberals will be aking this question:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRGd0gD0QNE

Why can’t we be friends?

I seen you ‘round for a long long time
I really ‘membered you when you drink my wine

Why can’t we be friends?
Why can’t we be friends?

I bring my money to the welfare line
I see you standing in it every time

Why can’t we be friends?

The color of your skin don’t matter to me
As long as we can live in harmony

Why can’t we be friends?

I’d kinda like to be the President
so I can show you how your money’s spent

Why can’t we be friends?

Why can’t we be friends?

I know you’re working for the CIA
they wouldn’t have you in the Mafia

Why can’t we be friends?
Why can’t we be friends?

Amen to all of those.

And do all of the above without electricity or electrical light of any kind (candles and lamps OK)

I’ll offer #8.

8. WALK any distance carrying your stuff. and #9

9. Use hand tools for an hour

and geesh ... if you plan to bug out, ...

10. have you EVER packed you vehicle(s) with you stuff?

so when were you going to find out you had three vehicles’ worth of stuff to fit in 1?

and on and on. prepping is NOT just stockpiling.
