NY Jet teammates rip backup Tim Tebow, believe 'terrible' quarterback hasn't improved
NY Daily News ^ | Nov. 14, 2012 | MANISH MEHTA

Tebowmania may have captivated the NFL last season, but Tim Tebow’s new team doesn’t believe that he’s a savior.

More than a dozen Jets players and members of the organization painted a sobering picture of the player who rallied the Broncos to the playoffs last season. In their eyes, he’s simply not very good.

The prevailing thought in the organization is that Tebow is nothing more than a gimmick.

“He’s terrible,” a defensive starter told the Daily News.

Although Tebow told The News last month that he has made improvements as a quarterback over the past few months, none of the people in the organization who spoke to The News shared that sentiment.

Both offensive and defensive players admitted that they hadn’t noticed any appreciable improvement in Tebow’s quarterback skills in practice since he was traded to the Jets in March. Tebow has been a poor practice player throughout his career. His current teammates echoed sentiments from Denver Broncos players a year ago about the lefthanded signal caller’s poor practice performance.

The 3-6 Jets’ dwindling playoff chances haven’t changed this mind-set in the locker room: Tebow isn’t a panacea.

Despite Mark Sanchez’s league-low 52% completion rate and league-high four red-zone interceptions, the players believe he should remain the starter over Tebow, who has accounted for only 132 total yards and averaged seven offensive snaps per game. Rex Ryan has backed Sanchez without publicly guaranteeing that he will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

Left guard Matt Slauson, who has repeatedly supported Sanchez, made it clear that the fourth-year signal caller is the Jets’ best quarterback.

“It’s not even close,” Slauson said. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.”

Many (non-football fan) FReepers were convinced that Elway didn't want Tebow to show him up.... so he dumped Tebow.

But then Elway goes out and signs Peyton Manning. So much for that theory.

Elway should be NFL executive of the year.

Maybe the Jets could break the mold a bit by keeping Sanchez as QB but employing Tebow as a tough back who sometimes throws short and medium passes.

JMO. I Never Played The Game. But it seems a waste to pay millions to a guy and then never use him.

How can he improve? They aren’t playing him. Throwing him in for a play a couple times a quarter doesn’t count.

Greg called them out as a team last year. The Jets players are not team players. That has to be strange to both backup QBs who came from real teams in college. Everything at Florida and Bama revolved around team.

Sounds like Tebows teammates are a bunch of losers.

What strikes me most about this article is the utter lack of class and team discipline. You simply DO NOT talk trash about your teammates outside of The Family, even if the “trash” is true.

In fairness, this article only quotes two Jets players, and one of them was a particular poltroon for remaining anonymous. But that’s two too many. The coaches need to kick some butts and, IMO, suspend the player who spoke on the record for one game.

“He’s terrible,”

I'd say it's hard to say when he doesn't get any snaps.

Unless your QB is Brady or Manning or Marino, or etc., the list is too long to list. And the Jets were not a subpar team until recently. Many (not just Footsie Ryan) had them pegged to go at least to the playoffs, if not the SB over the past couple of years.

He got 9 snaps, I think, this weekend. In two of those snaps, Slauson's crack offensive line unit made false starts.

In the other seven, I believe Tebow advanced the ball on each play.

The “defensive starter” and the other Jets that pile on Tim Tebow are just pissed because he won’t go to the clubs and do a bunch of blow with them.

Last two years, it was Tebow/Denver jersey as the number one seller, for this year.

Tebow should embrace the call to change and become:

(1) a running back who can throw/option, or
(2) a special teams return specialist.

Both have limited life-times in the NFL but...it sounds like he will be collecting meager pension checks in about 3-5 years anyway.

Hey, even my Lions need one or both of these position players!

I’m surprised Jacksonville didn’t try to get Tebow in a trade, at least he’d put butts in seats.

In our eyes, the whole team is simply not very good. LOL

What a pathetic story. Someone should write an article about anonymous digs against this reporter at the ny daily news.

The Broncos didn’t think he was worth hanging on to.

To give the guy credit, he's a big strong dude with some speed for his size and he doesn't seem to be afraid of getting hit.

He should ask to be traded to Arizona. If he played for the Cardinals he'd get hit--hard and often.
