US guns sales soar after Barack Obama's re-election

Owners of guns have been stocking up because they are concerned about a potential tightening of regulations on assault weapons in the president's second term.

In October the number of background checks on people applying to buy guns, an indicator of future sales, increased by 18.4 per cent.

There was a similar jump when President Obama was first elected in 2008. A total of 12.7 million background checks were carried out that year, up from 11.2 million the year before, and the number has been rising since then.

Shares in weapons manufacturers like Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger also surged after Mr Obama's re-election.

We just hired two young guys to paint our front porch. Went outside to my car an hour ago and overheard their conversation about buying guns, concealed carry, etc.
Actually made me cheer up a little.

My local guy normally closes at 1:30pm on Saturdays. I was there at 1:15pm. There is no way he closed on time. The place was packed.

Gun show in my town this past weekend. It was busy. And I have to say, most people there looked serious, bordering on scared. Not a lot of joking around.

The vendor where I bought my Glock said Glock’s are going to be hard to come by shortly.
Semi-autos similar story.

Just passing along the info I heard - I make no claim as to validity of said vendor’s statements.

Last week I bought a Saiga rifle. Shoots 7.62x39’s. No kick at all and man, what a rifle. Very pleased with it. Timing was more coincidence than anything, at least I keep telling myself that.

Do you know if the AK mags fit the Saiga? The Saiga’s are basically AK’s without the pistol grip, but I’ver heard the AK mag wells are different. Just wondered as I also thought about getting a Saiga, since without the pistol grip, they might technically clear another ban...then again maybe not.

BULLSHIT!! Owning an "assault weapon" in the US is against the law. The Brit author has no clue.

They do clear the current ban. I believe Saiga clips are unique. They come in 10, 20 and 30 round clips.

You're confusing "assault weapon", a pejorative propaganda term with a constantly changing definition, with "assault rifle".

"Assault rifle" is defined as a selective-fire rifle, chambered for a cartridge of reduced size or power. The definition of "assault rifle" is derived from the German "Sturmgewehr", specifically, the "Sturmgewehr 44", and is a matter of documented, historical fact.

Assault Rifle (Britannica)

"Assault weapons", which refer to semi-auto firearms with certain scary features, such as a pistol grip, or bayonet lug, are perfectly legal in much of the United States (State laws vary).
