Petition started asking Obama to allow Texas to secede from the Union
White House Petitions site ^

Posted on 11/09/2012 6:58:13 PM PST by oneprolifewoman

"The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government."

Go Texas!

Though 90% of my life has been in NJ, MA and ME ... from 3 to 6 I lived there. In my heart - it’s home. Frogs, snakes - rainbow, coral, rattlers, garden and water mocassins, turtles - painted, box and snapping, scorpions, walking sticks, bullfrogs, armadillos, fire ants, icicles and hail but no snow.

Texas is already it’s own country, why not formalize it?

Add Puerto Rico, and Obama would still has 57.

The dominoes would start falling towards an avalanche of states and people who don’t want anything to do with this federal govt. We could call ours the New States of America and they could call theirs New Africa.

"but how much of Texas is federal land ,that Obama would keep?"

None, if Texas does secede. All the land would still be part of Texas, so none of it could be rightfully claimed by the fedgov.

I don’t suppose 40% of New Jersey would be allowed to go . . .

So let’s get it going. Let’s start a peaceful movement to have the Red areas secede from the Blue areas. Let’s do it. It’s like we’re in a bad marriage. Nobody wants it, but they stay in it out of fear and a misguided sense of duty. The fact is that we conservatives simply don’t have enough in common with the liberals to successfully share a polity with them. We’ll all be better off if we divide the United States along red-blue lines. Look at the county-by-county electoral map for this last election. It’s really quite stark. We conservatives would get most of it. And we’d run up against “red” areas in Canada. What’s more, we’d be shut of the deep-blue areas like Detroit, CT, VT, etc. We’d never have to hear from Bill Maher, Michael Moore or Barney Frank every again. And they wouldn’t have to deal with us. Let’s do it.

I think you’re right and what’s wrong with the idea. Nothing says we have to live together. Why should one third of the states get to dictate to the rest who will be president. Let them have their socialism. I see the country breaking up into three. The northeast and great lakes states, the west coast and the rest. That was the beauty of the system the founders set up. If you don’t like what your state is doing move to another more to your liking. I’d be all for it because I only see the two sides becoming more and more divided which will only lead to conflict. I would hope that my state of Colorado would join with the red but lately it’s looking pretty blue.

I seriously doubt there will be many red states at all in ten years.

At some point everyone will realize there really is no point in actually struggling to keep a real job, say screw it and at best go to "work" in some mindless government "job".

But you are the delusional one if you think anyone can hold all this together once the party is over the way it is about to be in Greece. And the looters will lead the way.

REALITY CHECK: Usually the OU Sooners Football Team Roster has > 50 % of the players who were born in TEXAS!

If Texas goes, at least another 20 states will go too.
Lots of room.

The bigger problem is how do you fit 150 million people into Texas?

Physically, not a problem - lot of room there. The key would be to allow free market capitalism to run free of government interference domestically and internationally with minimal taxes and tariffs. Texas would be sustainably wealthy like any society that allows the free market to run.

Texas would need to adopt the United States Constitution as good, sound law of the land so it would be under the rule of law not the rule of man. Government limited to protecting it's citizens from legitimate threats to life, liberty, and pursuits, no "entitlements" and only a few legitimate cabinet posts. And keep the three branches separate - no administrative laws and regulations. And somehow make the the Supreme Court accountable to interpret the constitution in good faith based on text and original intent and understanding.

Texas biggest problem would be how to create sufficient deterrents and defenses against foreign invasion.

What’s wrong with it? Why can’t people part ways. It’s better than the alternatives. Walter E. Williams, who I respect greatly, thinks it’s a fine idea.

Texas is asking Obama to allow it to leave the Union?

Did the Colonists ask King George III to allow them to separate from England?

Just do it. I'm for it 100%.

I would even make my own job stopping illegals and liberals from entering the new nation by aiming a gun at their heads at the border.

Hey, someone would have to do it, right? Once they go broke and start eating each other, they're going to try to get through one way or another.

Amnesty? NO WAY!

Right off the bat, Texas would need to welcome immigrants the way America did as evidenced by the words carved on the base of the Statue of Liberty. Maybe Texas could buy the statue from the U.S since they don't really believe in it anymore.

Until the early 1900's, America stood for people as an asset not a liability. In a free society, people ARE an asset and welcomed, as long as they are peaceful mind their own business. The socialists think of people as liabilities having to be paid for. Not so in a free society.

I think you misunderstand me. My “steak dinner” offer was meant to be sarcastic to those who think Texas will somehow escape the fate of the rest of us. Because I agree with you — in 10 years, “red” states will be few and far between. EVEN Texas.

I would rather eat nails than have to admit this truth, but there it is. Please keep in mind, I live in ultra-blue Maryland.... knowing that the mythical Lone Star State of Texas will soon be consumed by socialism does NOT warm my heart.

I see the country breaking up into three.

Former Latin geeks will remember ... All Gaul is divided in three parts. ...

I also see a (mostly) peaceful split. It's time to go our separate ways.

In any relationship, you fight to make it work ... and at some point you say "well, it's all been laid out on the table honestly, and we just don't see the world the same way"

For once, we could just agree to disagree, no need to live with each other's choices, no need to be angry.

But we would also need a strong anti-immigration policy addressing those in the other US, because within 3 years, they'd be climbing over our fences trash-picking our yards and bank accounts. Strict anti-anti-gun-control laws will be helpful at that point. And I did mean "anti" twice.

Don’t ask permission. Just do it if you’re doing it.
