Petition started asking Obama to allow Texas to secede from the Union

"The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government."

I have been following the Secession talk regarding Texas for years.. My Son, a Producer, is making a documentary film about it as we speak..

Texas has a more interesting option available.. Dividing into as many as 5 separate states.. It’s in the Constitution..

There is little or no chance that Texas would ever attempt to do anything, but is always fun to think about what it would be like living with a new chance at starting over.. :)

Wanna bet? Our demographics are no different than the blue states, but consistently we win state races, we must be doing something right...maybe the National GOP could learn something from us, if they cared.

I believe Texas was a republic—it was more than a state, but a country if that makes sense, `six flags’ and all that—when it agreed to join the union.
And didn’t Texicans insist on some reservation in their constitution explicitly reserving the right of secession?
I lived in San Antonio for four years as a child, a long time ago, and don’t remember my state history. Sure, they got slapped down once, but that was then and this is now. If Obama continues with his agenda and they broke off ... I’ll leave that thought hanging, along with your own thoughts on federalism. And tyranny.

Not if they take away the looter’s vote. Just require than you have a real job to vote and aren’t on public assistance. Throw in being a property owner and you are safe for the foreseeable future.

We could put together a country with a lot of the USA’s national resources. I support our secession if we really have become irrelevant in presidential races. The Czechs and Slovaks went their separate ways. So should the cons and libs. We get the constitution, they get Dreams From My Father.

Currently because of the F’d Up primary system, Texas has no voice is who is the nominee.

Given the states that actually decide the election would should just let Ohio and Florida pick the nominee.

Mitt only won states in the primaries that he lost in the General. Having the make or break primary in a State that is actually solidly Republican eliminates the chances of Democrats cross-voting and sabotaging the process.

Funny, you actually hit on the real problem if Texas was to become a separate country.. The invasion would be everyone trying to move there.. LOL

I don’t know. The last time tried it failed because it was viewed as not legal, there were no court challenges. a group of states declared war on the central government. In fact, there is nothing in the constitution that says you cannot leave. I think under a few amendments like the 1st, a legitimate challenge could be made and it would be adios MF in a fair world.

I’ve frankly had it. I don’t wish to be led around by a group of no man zone cities full of moochers who aided by fraudulent vote counts dictate what is going to happen to those who happen to be less in number but more disbursed.

I am in favor of holding State Constitutional Conventions, splitting the former USA into economic regions, and each region taking with them their proportionate, (based on population), share of the former USA National Debt.

North Dakota to Texas could be one region, the States contiguous to the State Of New York might be another, etc.

BTW, if you drove from the Louisiana-Texas border to Los Angeles, when you got half way there you would still be in TEXAS!

That’s not how to secede! This is how to secede:

AN ORDINANCE to dissolve the union between the State of North Carolina and the other States united with her, under the compact of government entitled “The Constitution of the United States.”

We, the people of the State of North Carolina in convention assembled, do declare and ordain, and it is hereby declared and ordained, That the ordinance adopted by the State of North Carolina in the convention of 1789, whereby the Constitution of the United States was ratified and adopted, and also all acts and parts of acts of the General Assembly ratifying and adopting amendments to the said Constitution, are hereby repealed, rescinded, and abrogated.

We do further declare and ordain, That the union now subsisting between the State of North Carolina and the other States, under the title of the United States of America, is hereby dissolved, and that the State of North Carolina is in full possession and exercise of all those rights of sovereignty which belong and appertain to a free and independent State.

Done in convention at the city of Raleigh, this the 20th day of May, in the year of our Lord 1861, and in the eighty-fifth year of the independence of said State.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these united Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States, that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. — And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.

Do note in both cases, nobody asked permission.
