How will GOP solve fiscal cliff riddle?
Politico ^ | 11/8/12 11:09 PM EST | By STEVEN SLOAN and KELSEY SNELL

Posted on 11/08/2012 9:02:58 PM PST by ExxonPatrolUs

Republicans know they’re going to have to budge on revenues in the looming debt and spending debate. The question is when to blink.

The problem: Revenue increases, which could solve the fiscal cliff riddle this fall, are also their best bargaining chip for an even bigger fight to overhaul the Tax Code expected next year. GOP lawmakers — especially those on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee — say tax increases should happen only as part of a fundamental Tax Code rewrite that also lowers marginal tax rates, a policy dream that won’t be realized until next year at the earliest.

So with 53 days left until the U.S. plunges off the fiscal cliff, House Speaker John Boehner will have to decide whether to sacrifice revenue earlier than he and other Republicans had hoped — and right now, he’s not saying.

extremists lost us the senate. Boehner’s leadership held the house. That’s more than enough for me. He played the best and only game he could realistically play with the cards he was dealt. Your words fall on deaf ears here.

Pal, read the post from Jim Noble.

Obamacare and any law can be the law of the land—but it does not have to be funded. Get it?

That would take balls and conviction, neither of which Boehner has.

Think if the roles were reversed and Pelosi was Speaker she would fund a Republican backed “law”?

And we “purists’ are so bad, aren’t we?

The purist Sarah Palin is the only reason Boehner got his job back as Speaker two years ago—she actually left Alaska and campaigned for conservatives, while Boehner was sitting back doing NOTHING in 2010.

Played the best game? Really? Then how the heck did we wind up with sequestration? I don’t even play poker, but I would never have played that game. Watch now as the military is gutted, and the terrorists start nipping at our weakened heels.Your boy accomplished that.

Your pity party for Boehner holds no water for me. Keep deluding yourself that he actually shives a git for you or for Conservatives. The delusion has served you well so far.

The people voted to keep Repubs in control of the nation’s purse strings (House of Representatives is the “People’s House”). They have spoken and we should listen. If Obama doesn’t like fiscally responsible legislation, let him veto it and demonstrate who was insincere (lied) about a plan for recovery and solvency.

If the People don’t like hard truth, let em turn control of the House to the dems in 2014. When the nation goes irrevocably into the abyss in 2015/2016, then they can try to blame the Repubs (they always shift blame).

Parate bellum civile.

We'll have to agree to disagree, then.

I get that you and anyone who thinks that this is really an option is delusional.

That would take balls and conviction, neither of which Boehner has.

Todd Akin had balls and conviction. So did Richard Mourdock. Laughable.

The purist Sarah Palin is the only reason Boehner got his job back as Speaker two years ago—she actually left Alaska and campaigned for conservatives, while Boehner was sitting back doing NOTHING in 2012

Yep, and then a handful of the purists went nucking futs and ruined a good thing.

Played the best game? Really? Then how the heck did we wind up with sequestration?

Because that's what happens when you're gridlocked and it's better than what happens when you're not gridlocked.

Your pity party for Boehner holds no water for me. Keep deluding yourself that he actually shives a git for you or for Conservatives. The delusion has served you well so far.

It ain't pity and his conservative credibility is intact. He held the House. You lost the Senate. You got nothing now. Deal with it or cry about it. It is what it is and you ain't in any position to demand a damn thing of anyone. Not after the game you played.

Keep digging, pal.

You have not made one coherent point yet.

Boehner can defund obamacare and send it to Harry Reid, and what is Harry gonna do about it?

Boehner just flushed any winning card he had. Not how you play the game, son.

And thanks to Rove and company, you kissed Missouri goodbye.

Don’t pin that on Conservatives. Dems never would have not defended their candidate.

Boehner owes his position to the TEA party folks. You know, the folks you think are so stupid.

Now run along back to DU and sell your tripe there.

Let everyone of them exprie. Since most of the sheeple in the Swing States and elsewhere bought the notion the “Bush Tax Cuts” benefited the evil rich and they voted to end them with their votes. Soooo, it would serve them good to go into H&R Block or however they prepare their taxies in January 2014 to see their net refunds substantialy decrease and then see them ask themselves “ What the F-— happend?” If I were a tax preparer, I would point them back to the 2012 calender and the have the date of November 6 circuled to remind them.

The fun state to watch bitch about higer taxes is going to be California. Same thing with New York as they will raise thiet taxes through the roof on a local and state level to pay for storm damage I’m sure or atleast use it as an excuse. Throw in the federal incrasees and I say let them eat cake!

We need someone who will stand up to the opposition, and defend and espouse principles. Someone who will fight. What we have is a power seeking operator, and a negotiator whose starting position is supplication.

The obsequious Boehner MUST GO.

Obamacare is the law of the land. You're deluded. etc etc

Did you miss 2010? Remember that Tea Party rejection of Obamacare? Remember the big Republican gains?

Boehner and his cohort act like this never happened have done all they can to thwart the new members. They continue to enable Obama.

Just prior to the election Reid was proclaiming that Romney would get no cooperation. He now is claiming a mandate even though the balance of power has not changed much. Boehner says "We're ready to be led"

Democrats fight. Boehner does not.

The job is opposing the Democrats. He's not getting the job done. He has no intention of getting the job done. He blocks anyone who does try to get the job done. What good is he?

We've got to let him go.

-- Increase all taxes on Movie and Theatrical release organizations. --

That was done in the past. Make sure it is applied to television stations, too.

That tax, for a war over in 1920, reminded me of a 1953 short TCM sometimes shows arguing for a repeal of the 20% movie admission tax still in force in 1953. By 1953, the damage from that tax had done its work, wiping out many small town movie theaters. TV stations paid no tax to show movies to viewers.

I want to make an Obama bumper sticker, “Hey Obama voters, Own it!”

I love your idea. But many Obama supporters are political alcoholics (by proxy) in the sense that anything bad that happens as a result of their candidate’s policies will ALWAYS be someone else’s fault - not theirs.

Maybe once they have been reduced to eating grass because that’s all that’s left, maybe then they’ll get a clue. Of course some will continue in their adolescent la-la land until the grass runs out.

Sad, but true. They can't be reasoned with. Government is their god.

It's funny. The other day, it dawned on me. Liberals would laugh at the ancient Roman's who elevated their emporers to god status. Yet that's exactly what they've done with Obama. He's the small-g god. Government is the capital-g God.

The House should insist on a Budget before passing any “Obama tax cuts”.

sad. You have repeatedly pounded the stake into the GOP’s heart with your unyielding intransigence over social issues and as the GOP dies now, so to does every conservative issue we care about. You are the reason we got Mitt Romney in the first place. You are the reason we lost the senate. You are the reason we lost the WH. You doomed all of us to a left wing nightmare without end. Now, unsurprisingly, you hunt for scapegoats. Go ahead and call me a liberal cuz we’re all liberals now buddy. like it or not.

The GOP can live or die, doesn’t matter anymore. the GOP will not even help one brave man, Allen West fight against the obvious voter fraud in his district, which is emblematic of the massive hi-tech vote fraud which threw this election.

Time for a new conservative party.

i did not leave the Republican Party-it left me.

I once again swallowed my principles to try to save the country, while the bluebloods pissed it away.

no more.

Killing a baby is wrong. granting amnesty to illegal Jose is wrong Making me pay for someone’s birth control is wrong. Making me a slave to the state through Obamacare is wrong.

Let’s see how your butt buddy .Boehner deals with the crap that is coming out on Libya.

every RepuBlican in Congress is now going to face a life altering decision.

How are they going to hold Obama, Biden, Clinton, Panetta, Petraues and others accountablefor Libya. holder for Fast and Furious? or are they going to scurry for cover?

and shut your mouth about me being the reason for Romney. I supported Palin, Cain, and Gingrich in that order. I had nothing to do with Romney’s nomination. But once that decision was made by others, it was all hands on deck to remove Obama.

I supported Mitt for the sake of saving America, and the GOP f’ed me once again.

You want to blame me, fine, but the real person to blame is the one facing you in the mirror. You kill Conservative principles by believing a backstabbing weasel like Boehner is going to fight for you.

Your little diatribe is horse manure. Like you so proudly declared to someone else, it is falling on deaf ears.
