Boehner Strikes Conciliatory Tone in Talk of Fiscal Cliff
New york times ^ | November 7, 2012 | JONATHAN WEISMAN and JACKIE CALMES

The House speaker, John A. Boehner of Ohio, striking a conciliatory tone a day after the Republican Party’s electoral drubbing, said on Wednesday that he was ready to accept a budget deal that raises federal revenue as long as it is linked to an overhaul of entitlements and a reform of the tax code that closes loopholes, curtails or eliminates deductions and lowers income tax rates.

Mr. Boehner’s gesture was the most explicit offer he has made to avert the “fiscal cliff” in January, when billions of dollars in tax increases and automatic spending cuts go into force. And it came hours after Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, offered his own olive branch, saying “it’s better to dance than to fight.”

But Democrats and Republicans are still far apart. Mr. Boehner made it clear that his vision for additional revenue includes a tax code that lowers even the top income tax rate from where it is now, 35 percent, not where it would be in January when the Bush-era tax cuts are set to expire — 39.6 percent. At least some of that additional revenue would come from economic growth that he said would be fueled by a simpler tax code.

Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, the third-ranking Democrat, has said those constructs are unacceptable. Democratic leaders say tax reform that lowers tax rates across the board would either hurt the middle class by trimming vital tax benefits like the home mortgage deduction or would not raise enough taxes to meaningfully reduce the deficit. Mr. Reid underscored Mr. Obama’s contention that tax rates on the rich must rise, saying “the vast majority of Americans” support that, “including rich people.”

Obama has been the most non nonnegotiable SOB the country has ever seen. (I WON!!)

All Boehner can do now is kinda shed some light on that.

Thats hard to do when you have no power and the media is hiding your light.
I Told all the peeps on FR the SENATE was paramount this time
What did we do? we lost Congressional And Senate seats.
Now Obama Owns the SCOTUS.

Man I don’t want Boehners job.

” - - - A coward for saying no - - - “

When a coward says “no” that means he does not have the courage to tell us what he is really going to do.

Boehner has worked had at deceiving his words with his dastardly deeds of doom, and deservedly has earned the derisive term of COWARD.

For example, remember Sobber of The House’s pledge to defund Obama”care?”

Yup, really.

Despite the drubbing Boehner takes on FR (and he constantly gets smeared here even worse than on DU IMO) I'm hoping he's up to the gargantuan task.

Now that he's the only leader we've got he may very well prove that he is able rise to the occasion. I actually respect him for thus far standing against higher taxes; yes, I know I'm in the minority here for not hating the man.

We did not give him the tools

There is ZERO chance of repealing obamacare now, but Boehner still maintains that he will fight to adjust it.

I have little hope that he will succeed when his party is fragging him 2 days after the election.
If I was him I would make Obama OWN IT.

We’ll all still be screwed but at least Obama owns it.

How do you defund a tax. When Roberts defined the Obamacare mandate that way it floored everyone.

Sometimes I get the feeling Boehner is hated more than Obama here.

Not easy to understand.

John Edwards was the biggest shyster sack of crap to ever walk down the pike.
They gave him a father of the year award and nominated him VP Candidate.

He cheated on his wife with cancer and fathered a illegitimate child while all this was going on and the Dems let John John ride quietly into the sunset.

We on the other hand, rip decent men for the slightest offense.

Yep, let the law Zero signed in Aug 2011 take effect and then replay Zero’s debate statement that “it ain’t gonna happen”...

” - - - How do you defund a tax - - - “

As Sobber of the House, with the House having control of the money, all he has to do is stop the flow of money to Obama”care.”

BTW, only Traitor John Roberts has said it was a tax -—.

Yup, and Obama will be proud to do so.

This is all consistent with Commie O’s pledge to “fundamentally change America,” destroy what HE did not build, and to exact revenge, Revenge, REVENGE!

With spineless RINOs in leadership positions in Congress the destruction of the rest of the US Constitution will be a piece of cake for Communist Obama before you and I have a chance to vote out the “Esteemed” Sobber of The House Boehner, The Coward.

1.) IF the “Fiscal Cliff” really does involve REAL cuts, (not reduction in the rate of increase), to the Annual Federal Spending Plan, (the term “Budget” is no longer used as there have been no budgets approved in the last 4 years);

2.) THEN do we need to have a “Fiscal Cliff” EVERY year to actually reduce Federal Spending year to year?

3.) In this manner, the Federal Spending would continue to decrease like clockwork, while our sorry Federal Politicians do what they do best: AVOID WORKING!

Boehner cannot pass laws and force the Senate or President to agree. However, the House of Representatives does have one power that doesn't require Senate or presidential agreement - the power to impeach.

The White House (boy, that has become a misnomer) is still lying about Libya, still lying about its gun running to Mexico, still lying about Obamacare, still lying about his background, still refusing to enforce our immigration laws, etc., etc. If Boehner wants to push back, impeachment may be the only tool left in the toolbox. Even if the Senate doesn't convict, it will tie them up and Obama's lies will be fully exposed and litigated.

The Supreme Court decision defined it as a tax.

So the Speaker should stop the flow of money while millions of people (mandate, medical devices, employers, investors) pay tax to fund it?

Yeah, that'll work just beautifully /s
