The House speaker, John A. Boehner of Ohio, striking a conciliatory tone a day after the Republican Partys electoral drubbing, said on Wednesday that he was ready to accept a budget deal that raises federal revenue as long as it is linked to an overhaul of entitlements and a reform of the tax code that closes loopholes, curtails or eliminates deductions and lowers income tax rates.
Mr. Boehners gesture was the most explicit offer he has made to avert the fiscal cliff in January, when billions of dollars in tax increases and automatic spending cuts go into force. And it came hours after Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader, offered his own olive branch, saying its better to dance than to fight.
But Democrats and Republicans are still far apart. Mr. Boehner made it clear that his vision for additional revenue includes a tax code that lowers even the top income tax rate from where it is now, 35 percent, not where it would be in January when the Bush-era tax cuts are set to expire 39.6 percent. At least some of that additional revenue would come from economic growth that he said would be fueled by a simpler tax code.
Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, the third-ranking Democrat, has said those constructs are unacceptable. Democratic leaders say tax reform that lowers tax rates across the board would either hurt the middle class by trimming vital tax benefits like the home mortgage deduction or would not raise enough taxes to meaningfully reduce the deficit. Mr. Reid underscored Mr. Obamas contention that tax rates on the rich must rise, saying the vast majority of Americans support that, including rich people.

Bend over.... here it comes.
Do nothing. Let the Bush tax cuts expire. Let the budget sequestration go through. Refuse to raise the debt ceiling ever. Watch Obama’s Amerika go down in flames.
BURN BABY BURN!
0bama will probably just decree that the debt ceiling is raised and Boehner and McConnell will do nothing. BTW - Whatever happened to Holder’s contempt of Congress over Fast and Furious?
watch everything you ever cared about burn with it. No thanks. If it has to burn, than so be it but it can’t be our fault.
They had better do something or loads of servicemen that have been fighting wars for 10 years will get whacked come Jan 1
Exactly. Stall, stall, stall. Run down the clock. Encourage Obama to take Madame Michelle on lots of outings. Act nice. Act bored act anyway that will waste time until the end of 2012.
The election is barely over and this guy is waving the white flag for everything. I think he got a speaker’s gavel that doubles as a surrender flag, and it has pop-out tissues because you never know when you need a good cry.
Boehner won’t get what he wants—or says he wants; then he’ll cry, fix a drink and go to a corner.
I don’t want anyone to pay his lousy salary ANYMORE.
Boehner is NOT a Conservative. The House is NOT Conservative. The Senate is absolutely NOT Conservative. The President is NOT Conservative.
Let’s see, the outcome is going to be what?
Like they'll let you keep any of it anyway, when they fully consolidate power.
There is a word for that. BOHICA
Bend Over , Here It Comes Again.
I believe it is Boehners Motto.
As Speaker of the House, he is a great dissappointment. The only time we ever hear from him is when he is making another ass-kissing deal.
It is dishonorable to be in debt the way this country is. - Illegal immigration is dishonorable and unfair to those immigrants, past and present, who came here legally and did what they were supposed to do. - Killing babies is dishonorable and murder. - Sloth is dishonorable. - Sodomy is dishonorable and declared sin by God’s laws in both the old and new Testaments. - Now, they have been elected by those who want to be given everything and assured their actions are just OK. . by everyone . . or else . . . Sorry; no can do.
Oh, and Obama does NOT have a Mandate; although he apparently thinks he does.
He’s a surrender monkey.
Throw him out of the Speakership. Pack your box and get out of here Boehner.
You know what the biggest difference is between Boehner and all those other republican candidates that recently ran for congress and Senate? he’s a winner and they’re losers.
Have you forgotten Valerie Jarrett?
What the hell is wrong with you people? he is playing chess! Obama will NEVER agree to this.
What stinks is millions of Americans are going to get it up the wazoo because these people cant work with each other to pass a simple budget.
Obama will make demands of Boehner that he will not be able to agree with and taxmageddon will follow.
