Ann Coulter: Do not underestimate the power of the incumbency.

Posted on 11/07/2012 2:46:30 PM PST by georgiegirl

Ann Coulter was just on Hannity's Radio show and said something interesting. That Obama's advantage was his incumbency and voters traditionally do not unseat an incumbent president, no matter what. (examples: Clinton and W Bush). Reagan was the only Republican able to unseat the incumbent Carter in a 100 years. Her ray of sunshine was that in the coming elections of 2014 and 2016, Republicans will have a much better chance with voters (I'm paraphrasing her)...

The conservatives do not have a chance until a strategy is devised to neutralize the prostitutes in the media. We have to get the truth in front of the great unwashed masses or we will forever be playing a game of catch up.. If I had a spare Billion laying around I would start a network that would be provided FREE on the televison channels (and satellite) that would provide the unvarnished truth. Tall order I know but otherwise just too steep a hill to climb...

AC is a phony - a RINO-lovin’ fool.

At the end, she stated “no woman candidates for 2016” - obviously a reference to Sarah.

AC and her RINO-ettes are why we have been losing!!!!

Yes, the last three incumbrnts who lost, Ford, Carter, and Bush, had serious challengers in the primaries and two of them Carter and Bush, had a serious third party candidate.

Thank you! She and Ingraham have been screaming for years how Mitt would be a great president and they all went out of their way to marginalize Palin. Come to find out, 14 million fewer people voted yesterday than in 2008! Idiots!

Didn’t Bush Sr. also lose re-election?

True. Democrats were able to unseat GHWB, Gerald Ford, Hoover, Taft.

But Republicans were only able to take out Carter (You can go back further and talk about Harrison and Cleveland and Martin Van Buren, if you want, as well as Presidents who failed to win their party's nomination for a second term).

Ross Perot's independent campaign had a lot to do with GHWB's defeat. There's a lot of debate about whether Bush Sr. would or wouldn't have lost in a 2-candidate race.

Humphrey was an incumbent Vice President not a President. Wilson unseated Taft in 1912 because of third and fourth party Roosevelt and Eugene Debs.

The last three incumbents who lost, Ford, Carter, and Bush, had serious challengers in the primaries and two of them Carter and Bush, had a serious third party candidate.

I guess Ann didn’t know that Obama was an incumbent when she predicted a big win for Romney.

Hope they enjoy 4+ more years of Obama!

She’s no different then the rest of them...attempting to remain relevant so that the gullible buy her books and keep her in the money.

I believe had it not been for Perot, GHWB would have won.

“I guess Ann didn’t know that Obama was an incumbent when she predicted a big win for Romney.”

yeah but she also said if we didn’t get Christie, we’d get Romney and lose.

>> FDR, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton each unseated a one termer. <<

Nixon unseated no one. He won an open presidential race in 1968 after one-and-a-half termer LBJ announced his retirement.

I used to like Ann Coulter. I never thought she sucked at the RINO teat until she expressed such love for Christie and Mitt.

GoodBye Ann. You are irrevelant.

That is exactly right.

We will bounce back, I’m certain of that. Pendulums swing and this cycle of leftward swing will soon end. Do not despair.

Also I get a bit tired of the changing demographic excuse. Is it a concern right now? YES, but our message will get rehoned and the GOP of 2014 & beyond will capture more women and minorities. In 2004 W was able to get 44% of the Hispanic vote! In 2012 it would have resulted in a landslide win for us. An old, rich, white, Morman had huge barriers to overcome with most minority groups especially running against a ‘cool’, ‘black’, incumbant that had a message taylored especially for them.

Be strong!

It's a tough call. Some analysts have said that Clinton was the second choice of enough Perot voters to assume that Clinton would have won without Perot in the race -- the economy was bad and there was much dissatisfaction with Bush.

The other side of the coin, though, is that Perot's hammering Bush really helped Clinton. Without Perot in the race, voters would have felt more positively about Bush, and enough people who'd voted for Bush in 1988, would have voted for him again in 1992 to reelect him.
