Ann Coulter: Do not underestimate the power of the incumbency.

Posted on 11/07/2012 2:46:30 PM PST by georgiegirl

Ann Coulter was just on Hannity's Radio show and said something interesting. That Obama's advantage was his incumbency and voters traditionally do not unseat an incumbent president, no matter what. (examples: Clinton and W Bush). Reagan was the only Republican able to unseat the incumbent Carter in a 100 years. Her ray of sunshine was that in the coming elections of 2014 and 2016, Republicans will have a much better chance with voters (I'm paraphrasing her)...

There was one thing that made Obama not like Carter and that was the end of OBL and Qadaffi. He was able to use that to show that he wasn’t incompetent.

This b!tch(Ann Coulter) needs to shut her pie hole!

I’m sick of rinos telling me what to do.

The next time she gets the urge to speak, someone needs to stick a hot link in her yap.

She is correct. Getting rid of an incumbant is difficult. Remember Ford, In a two man race in 1976, with all of the problems, got 48.0% of the vote.

I heard Ann and she was spinning because her guy lost. She tried to say that W won and him and Republicans were not popular in 2004. Actually W was popular and GOP gained seats in Senate and House in that election. It was after 2004 and Katrina in 2005 and continue problems in Iraq that caused the 2006 election route by dems. Its true being an incumbent for Obama was an advantage mainly because of the hurricane response, but most incumbents don't have 8% unemployment and lousy economic news. She wouldn't agree with Sean that Country had changed.

She’s exactly right. It was always an uphill battle and Christie and the storm lifted the muslim coward over the top.

I can’t count the number of times the Repubs have been declared “dead and buried”.

Too many whiners on this site right now. Reminds me of an ex-wifes club or something.

Hey whiners and doom and gloomers, shut the hell up will ya?

Didn’t Bush Sr. also lose re-election?

Coulter pushed her “chosen loser”, and now
tries to circumvent his meek, weak, campaign.

Yes, that is one more reason. He gets so much more exposure just by being president, not to mention all the use of taxpayer funds an amoral president has at his disposal for campaigning.

I think there were many reasons. Death by a thousand cuts. The app telling his supporters how to commit vote fraud, all the other vote fraud, the media bias, Crowley, Christie, the storm . . . many, many reasons, as we have seen if we are reading FR posts and replies. Perhaps even the high poll numbers for Romney right before they started falling, which may have energized the other side to vote in greater numbers.

Not arguing it is difficult, but we had a wildly unpopular president with low numbers, unpopular signature legislation, and a terrible economic situation. A year ago, we started letting him off the mat. This year, we let him repaint an imaginary recovery despite the fact that the situation has been worsening. Last year better than this. Numbers trending worse each month of the spring and summer. We didn’t show this to the American people, while he was running display ads all over the internet showing the job turnaround.

Our side needs to play ball 365 days a year. We never learn. It is even more important for our side to do it than theirs, as we don’t have the media juggernaut.

I also read an article this morning which stated that many political historians believe that if it were not for the hostage crisis, which a very liberal Walter Cronkite mentioned EVERY SINGLE NIGHT as he signed off the nightly news, Carter would have won a second term. Even the last polls taken in late Oct of 1980 showed him several points ahead of Reagan.

Slick Willie was re-elected shortly after the BJ incident.

So yes, there is truth in that statement.

By my count— FDR, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton each unseated a one termer. I get fuzzy on who was in office prior to the 1930’s

I have voted for an ersatz candidate for the last time. I vote my Christian Conscience from here on out.

She’s full of carpola. Like Rush says its hard to beat Santa Claus. By 2016 we will likely be in a full blown economic meltdown and it will be everyman for himself. Lets see how the useless eater Obama supporters handle that scenario. Santa Claus will have blown the coop.

I'm surprised Ann didn't pass out from hyperventilation.

She couldn't decide whether to blame Kennedy's immigration act or conservative 'purists' for last night's loss (the first pundit to blame the victim, which we knew was coming).
