Yep… The 2012 RNC with its rules changes was the final nail. Any chance of a Romney win was over at that point. The Paulbots had the numbers and motivation to make a difference last night.

This race, if there's ANY intelligence left in the Republican Party, should clearly illustrate the failure of the move to the center strategy.

We won an overwhelming percentage of Republicans and Independents last night, but lost the election. How? Because not enough of them showed up! You neutered the base, didn't pick up enough independents to make the difference, and it cost this election, which should have been an easy win!

I doubt it. Now that she’s on the Huffington/Brock track, she’ll support the Dem in 2016.

It wasn’t just the Paulbots. That convention stunt agitated a lot of people and there were other ongoing issues with Romney.

Little things like meeting with Mike Rowe caused people to take a hopeful look and think that maybe he was paying attention. Unfortunately all Romney saw was some quick and easy PR before moving on.

The country has changed and conservatives haven’t paid attention. We couldn’t even nominate a conservative, let alone elect one.

The conservative movement is dead until the fiscal and welfare system collapses. That will take some years. Look at Europe.

We lost because there are not enough of us that believe in the same principles. Face it, conservatism will not carry the day today or in the future. There is simply not enough of us in the current situation (economic, entitlement, social)to win a large election. Now, if the situation changes where people fear for their safety or survival, conservatism will move to the forefront. But that's not happening now, so we lose. Nowadays, people vote for what they want right now. I see Conservatives speak the conservative mantra and then go out and try to get every free thing they can from the government. The point is, that our side is not strong enough to win. Not willing to do what it takes to win. Now unfortunately, the conservative movement will have to change itself to be able to win. We have squandered what we had. Now, we will have to take on ideas that might not be palatable to us to be able to win. It takes numbers to win. You can't win appealing to a small base, regardless of ideals, morals, integrity and such.

So we have to decide; change or disappear

What happened to the required “pictures” of “hot” Ann that used to have to be posted every time her name was mentioned in a thread?

Sort of like the reverse of JFK’s quote...it is now:
“Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you.” You make a good point. We have not truly faced the fact that these new Americans are totally disconnected from what we have always seen as the most fundamental American quality, that “I can” and running in when others are running away from problems. This, I think is due to feminization of our country...protect me vs. let me fix it.

You know, I had wondered how so many appeared to have forgotten that she said that. The first part of that sentence, however, proves that she can be wrong a couple of times in a single sentence.

“Remember, it was the Republican primary voters that selected Romney, not you”

You are right there. I voted Gingrich in our primary even tho the liberal, Romney, had supposedly wrapped up the nomination.

So we got a Liberal Massachusetts governor as a nominee for a supposedly right of center, or as the left call them, Radical right, Republican party. What in the world could go wrong? For your information, I and everyone in my sphere of influence voted for Romney. We did not want to. We were not happy about it. We sacrificed our principles for what I thought was the good of the country.

My state voted overwhelmingly for Romney. How about yours? If I had to guess, and I haven’t looked at your profile here, I would guess you are from one of those “blue states”. And if I had to guess further I would bet that you voted Romney in the primary.

So, whatever I am and whatever I did I most certainly did not help get Obama reelected. From your posts it seems that you feel pretty guilty about the whole thing. That’s allright. In another 4 years you’ll get to do the same thing!

He isn’t going to convince anyone if he isn’t convinced himself.

Spot on. That is the impression I got when watching Romney. He talked the talk, but you never got the feeling he would walk the walk. There was no conviction or speaking from the core as a true conservative would have done. Maybe it is time for the conservative to be on the top of the ticket and not on the bottom ? In 2016 they wont be running against Obama. They will be running against a Democratic Party that has failed for 8 years. None of the progressive policies will work, because they cannot work.

“That convention stunt agitated a lot of people and there were other ongoing issues with Romney.”

Yes, taking over the Republican Party for the liberals, throwing out the conservatives so they couldn't be elected as delegates in the future unless Romney approved, was a death blow to the party. Well, Romney lost and he thought he couldn't lose because he was the choice of the GOPe.

Whoever is the candidate in 2016, now has the power to dump delegates and choose his own, thanks to Romney with the national chairman, Boehner and Sununu stomping on the rules and forcing in their rules with a fake vote as the majority voted against adopting those rules.

It won't change - another Rino will be chosen by the GOPe next time.

The conservative coalition is split.

Many years in the wilderness of liberalism will be the result.

The pro-life position (which I espouse) is not electable in this country. Fiscal sanity (which I espouse)is not electable either.

It all has to collapse before anything will change.

Well, Romney lost and he thought he couldn't lose because he was the choice of the GOPe.

I'm reminded of what Ed Rollins said shortly before the convention when asked if Romney could win in the south considering the fact that he didn't win any southern primaries. Rollins laughed, and said he's their only choice.

And lets not forget that Romney could only pull off a tie in the Michigan primary after crushing McCain by nearly double digits in 08.
