The betrayal by our elites and the false conservative "snakes in the grass" who cost us the election

As last night's awful events have painfully proven, we're continuing to lose ground and our movement is being undermined, above all due to the treachery, blindness and incompetence of the GOP leadership to the forces gutting us from within. Our elites continue to betray the most basic conservative principles, and this is especially so for the snakes in the grass who've infiltrated our party as conservatives when they're anything but.

Chief among these false conservatives are the neocons, who are big government liberals by any definition yet have gotten positions of power and policy decision-making that have continue to cause terrible damage to us. They may have single-handedly cost us this election. The neoconservatives- if ever there was a misnomer- fool our bloated, useless leadership in the GOP into thinking they're "conservative" simply because they cloak their neocon big-government excesses in the mantle of a pretend pro-military stance. They've done exactly the things that our country's conservative heritage, stretching back to the Framers, warned us against- massive build-ups of central government power, revoking of civil liberties and gun rights, entangling alliances of the US with foreign favorites and fighting their wars, devastating deficit spending.

My wife and I helped to campaign for conservative causes when we were back in the States earlier this year, but the objection we constantly heard from so many conservatives who decided to stay home, was along the lines of "how can the GOP call itself a conservative party when it's led by big-gov libs like the neocons"? The truth is, we couldn't rebut that objection, and it probably cost us the White House and the Senate.

Same with the blanket Europhobes. My wife and I split the months these days doing import-export business in Europe. There are indeed hopeless cases like surrender-happy France, or of course Dhimmi Britain and it's dhimmified government surrendering to Sharia Law. But many parts of Europe are if anything much more conservative than the US has been lately in many areas, certainly on some social issues, immigration and fiscal policy. Much of Switzerland and Germany for example has incorporated laws cracking down on minarets and Muslim immigration, has laws supportive of gun owners and keeps a tight leash on its budget. Even in Greece and the Mediterranean where my wife and I work, they're much more protective about their native culture and use of social services by outsiders making claims and guilt-tripping them. The history of US conservatism has incorporated a lot of basic ideas from Europe, and there's a lot that US conservatives can learn and benefit from taking in the best ideas from Europe, yet this stupid blind Europhobia by some sell-outs in the GOP leadership have cut us off from this useful stream.

This is partly due to the neocons- see above- and also due to some fair-weather "conservatives" in our media like Rupert Murdoch who benefit financially from Europhobic blather, and who won't hesitate to stab our movement in the back for some short-term economic gain. The blind Europhobia is a massive turnoff for conservatives in states like Wisconsin, and it too wrecked our chances of victory.

There are plenty other examples, all the Trojan horses and opportunists who masquerade as conservatives but see our movement and our rank and file merely as fodder for their immediate financial interests. There are too many "pro-business" Republican bigwigs who don't create businesses or anything of value, their only "business orientation" being to make a lot of money off sweet big government contracts, and back-scratching and cronies within a government that has to grow bigger for them to profit. They have no interest in the true free market, or building up businesses like true entrepreneurs and those of us who grow our companies from the ground up. Too many conservatives saw this, became disillusioned and sat out the election.

Too many basic conservative causes that would have drawn in crucial votes, also went unaddressed. Why did Romney fail to more forcefully address such obvious vote-getters as the outrageous double-taxation on so many levels in this country? It's especially harsh on those of us who work in import-export, who are taxed wherever in the world we make our money- something that no other country does- to the point that banks overseas will close our accounts to avoid doing the appalling US tax paperwork. Why not address the outrages of US divorce laws, which as my good friend recently found out, all but allow for legalized theft of the hard work, and often the businesses, of more productive partners by moochers? Why not better address the stifling reporting regulations placed on small businesses, to the point that we're filling out paperwork more than assisting our customers? These are no-brainer vote getters, yet the leaders of the GOP barely paid them any attention.

The “conservative” talking heads need to knock off their “Republicans do it too” bull****. Blast the ‘RATS and then say “Republicans do it too!” You just shot a hole in your whole argument. Dumb stuff. When the commie ‘RATS accuse conservatives as being “extreme”. I NEVER hear any of them say, “We DemocRATS are ‘extreme’ too!”

Bottom line. Safe loses. They went safe. The only true bright spot was debate #1. Debate 2 was pretty good too, but the last 45 minutes was the turning point in the election when Crowley inserted herself, and the crowd cheered. Romney continued to gain for another week or so, but the seeds were planted that night for the loss. Romney went safe from there trying to look presidential and give undecideds a real option. Too many kept the old one. They miscalculated that Obama wasn’t going to be able to sell his ‘we’re on the path to recovery’ narrative. They thought the discontent of people would motivate voters to turn out for Romney, and it wasn’t enough.

Jav - So what you are saying is that many conservatives decided not to vote for Romney because he didn't address their needs? So these brianiacs figured that by staying home and not voting - their message to the Republican party was heard. Seems to me that by not voting for Romney, they gave Obama the victory.

Really convoluted thinking

The results of party over principle are painfully apparent today for all to see.

The GOP has Whigged out.

Conservatism is Americas last best hope. Full beast mode fighting pit bull scorched earth conservatism.

Conservatives comprise about 40% of the electorate. Winning requires 50+ percent of the vote. Getting conservatives to vote for good, conservative candidates is easy, but you need another 10% of the voters in order to get conservatives elected. These people are called moderates and without them, that good conservative candidate turns into the losing candidate. Conservatives are very good at picking conservative who are losers. We need to figure out how to nominate conservatives who can be winners.

I watched all the debates and until this morning I thought Mitt outclassed Bronco. This morning I concluded that Bronco knew he had the election safe in hand and did not want to participate in the debate. It all makes sense today.

Totally true, this dumb urge by our own “pundits” whatever that even means these days, to give “even treatment” undermines anything we do to differentiate ourselves. The while point of having a conservative movement with conservative candidates is to offer a clear alternative to the liberal establishment that’s been stifling our country for decades. Hard to do if our own media reps attack the Dems and then lump our candidates and stances in with the same critical heap.

This morning I concluded that Bronco knew he had the election safe in hand and did not want to participate in the debate. It all makes sense today.

Micro targeting young, female, minorities was his real firewall.

He had his base in pocket, and used that group for insurance purposes.
