GOP senators: Thousands of ballots unlikely to reach military voters in time

A group of Republican senators said Monday that thousands of voter ballots are unlikely to reach military service members until after Nov. 6.

One day ahead of the election, Sens. John Cornyn (R-Texas), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) sent a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to express their concern over delays in ballots reaching military voters overseas.

We write to express concerns over another serious failure by the Department of Defense (DoD) to safeguard the voting rights of our overseas military service members, which we believe could result in the imminent disenfranchisement of thousands,” the letter stated.

How revolting is this? The brave and courageous men and women who defend our right to vote won't be able to.....this makes me sick.

Nasty letter.....the Republicans in office are such cowards. We were warned about this weeks ago, and the R’s did nothing about it!

Yet they are letting stranded Sandy NJ voters vote by email & fax? Why can’t they do this for troops?

If Republicans are too stupid and weak to bring consequences for this illegal, treasonous behavior, it will continue year after year. The media is not going to cover it. So yelling about it does not work. Lawyers, boys. Punish responsible military personnel.

The senators asked that a new mail system be in place by the next election, in 2014.

WTF

What a bunch of RINO, losers and wusses.

What they (and every other R Senator and Rep) as well as the RNC should HAVE DONE ALREADY (knowing what they know)--rather than waiting until the 11th hour--is to have filed lawsuits (asking for expidited rulings) in EVERY state asking for an extension for any Military person serving ANYWHERE overseas or having returned within the last 60 days, of 2 months for their votes to be counted.

Gee, when I was serving in Nam (some 45 years ago) I used to get mail from upstate NY in 2 to 3 days and the same time for my letters to get to my Mom.

How is this possible that 4+ decades later, it now takes that much longer for mail to reach our Military Warriors???

Those are all liberal leaning voters, the Military is not! It is more hypocritical than that.. The Polling places are being powered by trucks driven by Marines and Guard.. Geeeeze I really really hate these people!

To obstruct the vote of our military who are engaged in a war to protect our freedoms should result in a trial for treason with execution by firing squad if found guilty.

I wish on some issues conservative legislators behaved like the Japanese and were willing to jump across the aisle and throw punches. It is no time for mild-mannered requests. This deserves a fight. This is outrageous.

“Yet they are letting stranded Sandy NJ voters vote by email & fax? Why can’t they do this for troops?”

Something tells me that if the truth be know then that violates federal elections laws. Besides being totally unsecured I always thought that Democrats are always crying when governors change things about an election too close to an election. The GOP should shove this one up Christies butt.

Do you happen to know how easy it is to spoof an outgoing email address? In some cases all you have to do is change some information in an email program. Besides you can’t even verify that someone else is not using a persons “Device” to receive or send email.

This along with many other modern aspects of voting system have truly turned us into a BANANA REPUBLIC.

Great point. This only happens when the D’s are running the show and are scared to death. One hopes they find a way to vote. I bet the guy they sent overseas in F&F has voted. Probably voted more than once(plus Mexico). Hopefully, after tomorrow they will fix the entire system for 2016. No early voting without ID. Purge the rolls in every state. N. Carolina has over 700 people who voted absentee on the same day. They were all at least 112 yrs. old. I don’t have a link but latest records show there are only 400 to 500 people in the entire world over 110 yrs old.

IMHO, the Military has more than the right to vote. When I worked for Lockheed, one of the managers who was very liberal make the comment that the people in the military should not be allowed to vote since it would counter the idea of total civilian control of the military. His comment wouldn’t fly in most other parts of the company but in the contract I was on, most of the managerial structure were occupied by former IBM’ers.
